even though i think BASE jumping is stupid, i signed it for you guys.

even though i had to register with the white house (i hate to be on a list there by choice), i did it to sign the petition. it's been over 30 minutes and no email verification, how long does it take? i'll sign it when i get the confirmation

Funny stuff.....you guys will give your info to the White House, but some get all cranked up just registering for Bridge Day (despite the fact that we've never given the NPS any names). Not that being on a list has ever really made a difference anyway. However, I think opening up the parks will take a lot more work than signing a petition.

You could still do it illegally if it was legalized then. Imagine how many regs and rules you would encounter if you were caught jumping it without any change in the current NPS laws.

While I feel like this is little more than free polling for the current administration to learn what hot button topics to mention in campaign speeches in order to get votes, I signed it.

It is noteworthy that it requires 5000 signatures WITHIN 30 DAYS to get "an official response." I suspect that response will be "Ha Ha! Get fucked!", though they will say it in a more politically correct manner. But who knows, maybe the Prez will show up at Bridge Day to do a tandem base jump and tell Jason "Yes, We Can!".

Come to think of it, I bet he could win that Subaru competition with an essay on his experience with crashing economies and falling opinion polls making him a great candidate for a free Tandem Base jump.

I know I said I would never be back on these forums, but I am here again since this is a good cause and since I started the petition.

Just wanted to ask all of you who signed the petition to keep posting about it on facebook, twitter, youtube, and any other site that you may have a following. We are doing okay in the first week, but we really do want to hit that 5,000 mark so this issue is addressed.

To those that did not sign it, I implore you to do so. When you register on whitehouse.gov it only asks you for your name location and email address. Nothing too sensitive. Please do sign the petition, remaining silent is just as bad as agreeing with the current status quo.

I created the petition. . . it is now in the BASE Jumpers' court.

I agree, everyone can use their basejumper email, and another one (or even two) emails.

So, there are less then 5000 base jumpers in the world, which means we can really forget it. Or, there are a lot of lazy bastards around.

I'm pretty sure you need to be a US citizen to sign that. Or at least that is what I assumed and didn't sign it because I figured that if some dirty foreigner signs a petition called 'we the people ...' that is aimed to white house they'll just toss it away when they realize that foreigners have signed it.

Well, that will happen in every petition that has ever occurred.

The petition will be dismissed if 5000 signatures are not obtained. So I would encourage our foreign friends to sign it. If anything, you can say you didn't understand and that you were planning on spending all your money in the US national parks BASE jumping. There. Done. They'll accept that.

Any plans to spread the word at Bridge day? there will be a lot of spectators there and surely a small percentage of them may be inclined to sign it.

Ideas:

1. Make up business card sized flyers with description and web address for petition to hand out to the thousands of spectators.

or

2. walk around with a clipboard and list and gather peoples names, cities, email addresses and signature and explain they will receive an email with a link to verify and they will just need to click it and digitally sign the petition and to please share it on Facebook and twitter. you then take the list and register for them so you don't have to rely on them to do it.

That's a great idea! But will Bridge Day happen before the end of the petition?

About 8 days to get everyone who signs the list registered.

On second thought, the Business card size flyers may not be the best ideas as it would be counter productive to the cause if there were several hundred of them littering the NPS land below after people just toss them on the ground.

to the OP:

it may be worth trying to contact the Petition Admin to ask if a physical list of names and signatures can be submitted to them and count towards it. I would imagine that there is some sort of way to make it count instead of having to manually enter them in online.
