South of France; beginner questions
Ok so i Make no claims to know shit about your sport, just that there is a lot i don't know! I am trying to find a jumper that is vaguely in my area ( cote d'azure) or generally alps direction. Any one got any pointers?

My next and largely biggest problem is that most of the recommendations say you make 200+ sky dives before attempting a base jump. which makes sense and would be great, but at 300 euro a jump i figure thats about 60000 euro before i make a base jump, and im just a poor guy that works his balls off for a day off a week! no way can i manage it!

I do lots of other extreme type sports, which started my drive to learn to jump, and am not stupid enough to dream that jumping off a cliff is ever safeTongue
And id happily graft to gain the experience i need.

But i know no one that sky dives or base jumps, and have no idea how to go about this!!

So any advice or useful contacts would be appreciated!

If it matters im 25 fit and strong, x marine, mountaineer and climber.

Seriously? How much did you look into skydiving. I'm guessing you didn't at all. Look at this webpage (its the closest one to cote d'azur area I found inside France) :

Skydive Flyzone

Your 200 jumps, at that place, will cost you 4k euros.

You honestly think people could've tens of thousands of skydives if they cost 300 euros a pop?

If you're not able/willing to drive a few hundred miles to jump, this probably isn't a great sport to consider.

If I was in France and wanted more information about BASE, Adrenalin BASE would be on my short list for places to look.

If you're thinking of BASE, you should probably forget about regulation and licensing. Get used to evaluating things for yourself, as there is no formal regulation or licensing of any kind in the BASE world.

If you want to get into skydiving and progress as quickly as possible, the thing to do is just put forth the time, energy and money to travel to a big DZ where you can make the most jumps in the shortest time. This will also help currency (and therefore skills progression).

The big DZ in your general area (will still take plenty of travel) is Gap. Go there with motivation, money and a bit of spare time allocated, and you'll be skydiving as much as you can handle in short order.

Bernie, it seems you have 0/1 jumps (tandem)and are taking a tandem jump price as a reference.

Before getting too much interested in BASEjumping, start with the skydiving part which would be the "logical way" trend. I know people who had over 50 Earth jumps before their first skydive Laugh

Go to french speaking forums too, like http://www.wuza.com for the skydiving, and http://www.base-jump.com which is the site of the French BASE Association.

Bon sauté.

In the US there are no x-marines. Only Marines, and those who wish they were. Wink
