At the Perrine last week, I asked three first time BASE jumpers what B.A.S.E. stood for. None of them got it right.
One jumper said "Bridges, Antennas, Structures, Earth". He had only 50 skydives in less than three months and a large bridle-unfriendly GoPro sticking out of his forehead. Mick and I told him about the Malaysian GoPro/bridle entanglement last year, but that didn't matter. He was ready to jump (stowed of course), although he knew absolutely nothing about the LZ.
Am I expecting too much when asking first timers to know the acronym?
From what ive seen the few parst years it wont matter if people knows what BASE stands for,all our standards, etics, unwritten rules, respect and morale has been sold way to easy mainly by manufactors but also jumpers throughing people off objects whith no experience no pror Ground crewing and no moral to what theese people are going to jump in their back yards,Im diskusted watching the fatalitylist today, when i started back in 02 not even 1/3 on the list had died in 20 years now 10 years later 2/3 of the list has died..
I do respect that people want to make mony get famus etc etc but honestly only a small amount of jumpers got somthing good from this progression..
I will state that i do know i take all by 1 standard here i also know that NOT all manufactors or jumpers do the above, but we all know it happens, what happened? we stopped beeing selfregulating, and cuz of that people dies massivly..
