WS leg pouch from planes?
Hi, i'm not frequently here but you guys are the best to ask for adivce.

I just bought a V2 and it came with the leg pouch and velcro. I asked a local basejumper(VKB member) if I could use the pouch from a plane, but he didn't recommend me using it.

I don't question his knowledge, but I'm more interrested to know if someone is doing it regularly, what are the dangers and if it's recommended or not.

I'm soon ordering an extra bag and PC just for my ws canopy and want to add velcro on my self on it so I may use the pouch.

Thanks for all advice :)

Whilst it is recommended to practice using the leg pouch in the skydiving environment it is
STRONGLY RECOMMENDED TO NOT USE IT for flocking, back flying or acrobatic flight.

That is from the Leg Pouch PC System User Manual. Just go for it you will be alright. Just jump alone when you use it. Wink

Yes, people are doing it regularly.

The dangers are pretty obvious, locating PC somewhere else than BOC obicously exposes the opening system to a bigger snag hazard / being more exposed to airflow and therefore increases the risk of premature deployment. If it is recommended or not, depends on the planned usage.

If you plan to do performance orientated solos as practise for BASE jumps I would highly recommend it (given the assumption that you are going to use leg pouch in BASE as well). If you want to do flocking dives and/or acrobatic manouvers I would not recommend it (due to the increased risk of having premature deployment).

pc size is also the issue here. when using a 28 for skydiving it can be a little loose in the leg pouch, take that into consideration. enjoy

All my WS jumps other than on beginner suits have been leg pouch, whether plane or other starting point. Plenty of flocking and some acro too, with not 1 case of PC falling out of the pouch. It's not as secure as a freefly rig (plenty of other methods and models of rigs are also not freefly rated), yet plenty of people do formations with non-freefly friendly rigs for decades. Be slightly more careful and check it before exit and after full contact flight incidents and you won't have a problem.
Leg pouch is just 1 of a many deployment methods/handle styles which are less secure than a freefly pud but have been used for thousands of formation jumps without problems. It has been proven for enough years that any incidents (IMO) related to it are purely user error.

edit: for smaller pc size just pack it bulkier near the handle (shorter)

Thanks for the input folks!

I'll look at it later on and see how it holds. It's a 27" ZP. but yes..no leg pouch when doing rodeos etc ;)
