Anyone have any experience landing in a field surrounded by Cattle? Are they mean when startled when suddenly appearing near them? do they charge?

while i have no experience with landing in a field of cows, i have been around cattle most of my life. they are usually not much of a threat, unless they have calves with them. bulls on the other hand are typically meaner than hell. unless you can determine the difference, you should stay away. i would attempt to walk among them a couple of times after checking the sex(huge balls hanging are one way to tell, another is cows have udders or tits). you may want to rehearse an escape route thoroughly beforehand, they can out run you but can't climb trees. if you can walk among them safely, make a noise of some sort to get familiar, then you have something to announce your presence while above them and won't scare them. if you have any doubts at all, stay away, as i have read that 200 people per year are killed by them, making them more dangerous than sharks.

Ive seen them stampede away from landing canopies, usually blowing any stealth you may have had, and steamrolling right through the barbwire fences containing them.

I had to deal with a few cows last year.
As soon as I came out of the trail in the
woods a bunch of them gathered around to
watch what I was up to.

I tried walking towards them to try and get
them to move away from the base of the
tower but they stood their ground and wouldn't
move. I just bush bashed to the rear side of
the tower and avoided them.

They don't like the sound of a canopy opening though,
they started running around the LZ so it could make
for a possible landing hazard. Luckily they ran out the
open gate to a different fenced off section.

Hit them in the nose if they give you trouble.

If a bull is stalking you, get on your belly and crawl toward the bull. About 10 feet from the bull, leap into the air toward them while screaming to indicate attack. The bull will retreat. I've done this about 30 times, all successfully.

Yell while under canopy to get them out of the way.

Does that work with the Fed's too?

For a moment until they fire their guns.

I have been run at by a herd. After landing, the cows curious, came up to me. Not that much of an issue. On walking away, they then started running at me, I stood still, and they just ran past all around me... very polite they were. It was a bit unnerving.

That object was known as "The black Herd".

one farmer ask me to move the cows out of the fence around the tower and into a bigger surrounding field so as to not cause them to stampede when to canopies open. A stampeding herd of cows can escape, tear down fences and get hurt. That might really piss of the farmers... it's best to talk to the farmers and clear the cows away from the tower if you can to keep relations with the farmers good.
Of course the bull is another story... walked past many with no problems. Then I tried it in Pamplona! I ended up running!

Its not the cows, its the boars.....we can't stop here, this is bat country....

Usually the worst thing that happens is that you get cow shit on your shoes, feet, jumpsuit, canopy, etc.

I would worry more about horses.

There are around 70-100 in the LZ of my local tower, and although they surround me during the walk to and from the tower, Ive never had any problems, I just yell, swing my stash bag around so they dont get too close, just make you sure you show them whos boss
