ACE vs Seven....
I wonder if anyone could shed some light into the real world differences between ACEs and Sevens...

Ive jumped a Flik 280 4/7 (an "S"), a Seven 260 and my ACE 280 from a plane.

It seems like consolidated rigging make ACES and Blackjacks, but Asylum only do Sevens (and feathers/same thing).

If i were to change my ACE for a seven, could i expect to notice any considerable difference?

My jumps range from mostly go,n,throws to some slider up 7 sec delays.

I recorded my 1st plane jump on the ACE: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=C_Ewxi7GV6U

Re: [aaroncosbey] ACE vs Seven....
In my opinion, the Ace has noticeably cleaner/faster pressurization slider down.

Also in my opinion, the Seven has _very_ superior flight characteristics. The glide, available forward speed and flare are frankly amazing.

If I was looking for a slider down canopy for solid object jumps I'd go with the Ace.

If I was looking for something that would only be used on spans or slider up jumps, I'd go with the Seven.

Consolidated Rigging is the manufacturer of the Ace and Blackjack canopies. You can order direct from them (http://www.crmojo.com) or through any dealer.

As a Consolidated Rigging dealer, I honestly think you're usually better off to just order direct from CR.

Asylum is a dealer for Consolidated Rigging, so you can order the Ace and Blackjack from Asylum if you wish.

Asylum is the manufacturer of the Seven and Feather canopies. They can be ordered direct from Asylum (http://www.asylumBASE.com) or from any dealer.

Consolidated Rigging is not an Asylum dealer.

Inquiring minds want to know :

Why did you choose an unvented canopy ?

Some people act like its tabboo jumping an un-vented canopy unless its a seven.

Who?

I can think of several unvented canopies that have better slider down pressurization than the Seven.

I cannot think of an unvented canopy that has better slider down pressurization than the Ace, though.

If I were choosing an unvented canopy for all around (including solid, slider down objects) use, it would definitely be an Ace.

That said, I would personally not do that. With the present state of BASE technology (yes, including the Seven), I would not recommend jumping unvented canopies off slider down, solid objects. Be aware that there are lots of different opinions about that, though, and that many jumpers for whom I have great respect have made different decisions on that issue. For many years we all jumped unvented canopies all the time.

It came as a complete package. The guy who had it before me used it for mainly slider off B's.

The container/harness fitted perfect and it would do until i could wait (17 weeks) for a vented equlivent/Seven or found something 2nd hand.

Im just trying to figure out if its worth getting a BJack or a Seven when i already have a perfectly good ACE just because of "better available technology". Which in the Sevens case is without vents! Crazy

Re: [aaroncosbey] ACE vs Seven....
My ACE is awesome. It's the only BASE canopy I've ever owned, but I've jumped Flik's 4/7, a Dagger, and a troll DW 4/7. And I can honestly say my Ace, in my opinion, seems to be the most consistent for everything from heading, to pressurization speed (not saying faster, although it seems that way), to ease of packing (all f-111, no zp nose). I love it. Still think I'm going to buy a Mayhem 4/7 though. You'll be happy with the Ace, just be consistent with your pack jobs.

Re: [aaroncosbey] ACE vs Seven....
I jump an Ace 280 and I also have a Seven 280 that is on long term loan from a busted up jumper friend. The Ace and Seven pressurize about the same on s/l and s/d go and throws. The seven flies really fast but it shuts down and flares like a mother. I like the Ace because it seems more like a work horse to me. Keep in mind also, I dont have that many jumps on the Seven, Im just used to the Ace.

Thanks for your input guys.

Just what I wanted to hear...

Quality info, opinions and advice as always :)

Can't wait to jump my ACE! Cool

I made a lot of jumps with a guy who jumped an Ace while I was on a Troll. He always had noticeably less canopy time and less glide on low S/L objects.

Re: [aaroncosbey] ACE vs Seven....
Vents were invented for a reason

can't speak for the ACE, but the Seven takes time to get inflated..I fly further on a vented FliK on a local 240 freefall. Theres shit in the landing area too, so having a functioning air foil soon is a big plus. Do not really see the benefits of a Seven (or an Ace for that matter) if your going to be a primarily slider down jumper.

Re: [BASEMenace2] ACE vs Seven....
I've done over 200 jumps on aces, probably 350 on sevens, both zp and standard, and I currently own a zp blackjack. Here are my personal experiences on there canopies:

ACE: great overall canopy. Free fell some pretty low stuff with it including a 113 foot tard. Never had any issues with the canopies until I started doing some low static lines with friends with vented canopies. Great slider up as well with consistent openings.

Seven: "the new ACE". I say this because I put it in the same class of an all around canopy. Lighter weight and even easier to pack than my aces. Interestingly I've found the opening height and time to controllability pretty much exactly the same as my aces, I do notice that even though it's open, flying, and controllable, it does tend to take a little longer for the nose to completely pressurize. I've also found that this does not seem to happen with the zp nose. As has been stated, the glide and flare are amazing on it, and especially half brake approach into full flare. Do this on another canopy and then a seven to see the difference. This is my go to canopy for the majority of my usual jumps.

Blackjack: the static line and low free fall beast. The reason I got this canopy, and the best argument I could give for vents is if you plan on free falling sub 300 on a regular basis, or do a lot of low static lines. I've jumped the non-zp and own the zp. Obvious downside is that the pack volume is bigger than an ace or seven. I'd say my 260 zp bj packs just about one full size larger than my seven.

Not condoning one canopy over another even though I have a relationship with asylum, just giving my review of the three. Only canopy I don't endorse for low free fall is a ragged out non vented fox, that shits just scary.
