They're not jumping though. Paragliders, hang gliders, and speed flyers go off of fixed objects... I'd call it PLF training that just happens to be under a parachute.

Can you BASE with an open canopy? 
Can you BASE hanging from an object? (pull-ups at the potato bridge?)
Oh no! Hundreds of people every week find a way to join our sport without doing a FJC, making 200 skydives or even ground crewing for some junkie basejumpers at all hours of the night!
I'm just a little less rare and/or cool than I thought I was!

Then go do it. I didn't get to do them when I went through PLF school back in the day -- thunderstorm of death arrived -- but I went back after I ETSed to visit some folk and naturally brought my rig. That was a good one, as was the little free stander out on KH -- especially since I did that one at about 3 in the afternoon with my friend and two daughters of Latin American WHINSEC officers as ground crew.
