Have there ever been any issues with shrivel flaps? Failures to work? etc...

How could a shrivel flap be improved?

Just brainstorming here. Appreciate the input!

i think there was an issue with someone using a shrivel flap from a ws bridle on a non wingsuit jump and it cause a mal. i am not sure if you were talking about a velcro rig or ws bridle shrivel.

Replace it with two curved pins :-)

...or one.

What if you built a shrivel flap with no velcro? Make it out of stiffened fabric of some sort and insert it into stiffened pockets on the side flaps?

The "tuck flap" if this goes anywhere tom gets the credit.

I would imagine that to be even worse then velcro.

shrivel flaps are fine! eventually you move up to pinrigs, but you never forget the sweet sound of velcro ripping in the night.

I got nastalgic, or whatever it's called, and bought a velcro container. I love that sound too.

A velcro shrivel with some sort of pin system added so a velcro failure isn't catastrophic would be my suggestion to Andrew.

I feel like were trying to fix something that isn't broke.

I've had the shrivel flap fail on me on a climb. I like it being noisy and all on climbs but it's not foolproof. What scares me is the flap failing accidentally on a terminal freefall jump. Maybe I should just go to all pin but even the pin system has some flaws.

I heard of one jumper in Utah where the velcro released right at exit which might have caused a horseshoe MF and he was aware enough to immediately huck his PC. Next day he invested in a 2 pinner.

I agree, the sound of velcro tearing on your back is priceless. It's like waking up in the middle of the night to a cat fight outside your bedroom window.
