Flik Lite
Anybody jump a Flik Light around here? I'm starting to look at some new gear and was just wondering how it handles slider down. Thanks.

The same as the regular Flik.

The Lite is sewn from the same fabric, with slightly different (lighter) construction techniques. I've got one in service for FJC's and in terms of function it hasn't been appreciably different from a standard Flik.

Re: [UG6] Flik Lite

I have a flik light and it works great slider down. I also have an ultra lite with the low bulk material and it works great slider down too.

I think that the main thing is to avoid using base parachutes with spectra lines slider down.

Thanks. Is there any different in how it handles things like trees, big rocks, and/or light poles? Since it's made of the same material I think it would still be good, but I'm just curious.

Re: [UG6] Flik Lite
Flik lite will be totally fine for landing in trees and on light poles and in big rocks and bushes as well as for all of your wall striking needs.

Essentially, they just removed some stuff where they considered the thing to be "over built"

As a lot, we have some oddly-developed senses of humor. This made me chuckle, as I'm sure it was intended to...

I've put probably 60-70 jumps on a Flik 242 lite, with the 400 dacron lines. I've done go and throws, 3-second SD delays, terminal jumps, etc. with it and it feels pretty much the same as my Flik 242 regular.

What about spectra lines makes them unsuitable for slider down?

Mostly the shock force. Dacron is surprisingly forgiving.

you plan on heading back over to the "recently painted grey" 365' tower any time soon?

yes of course...as soon as I get out of Afghanistan...thats why i need to make sure my post-deployment new gear is able to match my awesome tree landing skillz...

Not sure if you're out of the Stan yet, or if you have ordered your gear, but I just recently upsized from a 260 to a FLIK Lite 308. Only have one freefall on it so far (250') but it seems super solid. Had more canopy time from 250' than I ever had before. It was boaty but still fun. I dig it.

Re: [UG6] Flik Lite
hey bud, hope you have a good trip back, it was cool meeting another jumper over here. i'll hit you up when i'm on my way back to germany.

On the Flik lite, i've been using mine as an all around canopy and it works great slider up, down and static lined (266 with 4 vents) you won't notice a big difference in weight or bulk compared to a standard Flik of the same size, so if you're looking for a lighter weight rig for hiking i'd start researching the ultralight 0-3 material canopies. (I love my feather for WS)

one thing i've found is a noticeable degradation of flare performance and consistency, but this is most likely related to porosity (one water jump) and maybe line trim...

the only real no-no is spectra lines and slider down jumps, also, if you're having slammer openings slider up, reconsider your reefing techniques (RIP Jeremy) and get them slowed down.

Re: [ecolisurprise] Flik Lite
Kind of like dynamic rope. Dacron stretches a little more and in doing so, absorbs some shock. Spectra is more like static rope

Re: [jws3] Flik Lite
Just adding some points, the required replacement line set replacement may have fixed the poor flare performance of my Flik Lite 266, apparently the 400lb dacron doesn't hold its trim as long as heavier lines, and my friend that installed the new lineset did one sky-testjump on the new lineset (with the 525 dacron upgrade for the middle 2 A lines if my memory serves..) and he said that it flared just fine, i'll hook it back up to a rig and get some base jumps on it to verify...

Are you trying to say that replacing only the 2 center A lines improved your canopies flare? If so I find that very hard to believe.

No, replacing ALL the lines, duh

That makes more sense. How many jumps do you figure were on the canopy before you relined it?
