Survive on parachute fail?
Hi all.

Possible to survive if the parachute is doesnt open, if we try landing to water with wingsuit?

Thanks for reply

No.

Chance? 1:100? 1:1000? Or totally zero? if I know right, the wingsuited basejumper' speed 200km/h, and the vertical falling 70km/h.. if he enquipped large surfaced wingsuite and steer up until reach stall speed very near in water surface, can slow down significantly .. no? In theory of course...

I think you're on to something. Post video (or have someone else post your video)!

This video about a swimmer, who is jump to water from 50meter high... If I know right, after 50 meter free fall he reach 100- 110 km/h overall speed (~30 m/s) on impact. He is do that without any damage...

In theory if the basejumper can slow down until 130km/h -150km/h overall speed and hit the watersurface in right angle, can survive without critical damage, or survive with some bone broking.

no problem. Ill film you ! it very easy to reach the right angle, you just take the yongles and shlare the wingsuit...130kmh -150kmh...not too fast, wont hurt a bit, water is soft

Maybe they could use some nylon and Dacron contraption to slow them down.

Large surfaced wingsuit can fly flat, paralell with water? (i think if this is possible, the jumper is slowing so fast... and where is the wingsuit's stall speed?

Other:
Yes, it is emergency question on parachute failing, not plan of extreme exhibition :D

Re: [Theos] Survive on parachute fail?
I think you missed my point. I was suggesting a parachute to slow the jumper down.Wink

The short answer is no, a wingsuit allows you to fall slower than without one, but not to stop falling and fly level or climb in the manner you are suggesting. Maybe someday, but not with current technology.

But you might Google Jeb Corliss and look at his ideas. He is also keen on landing a wingsuit.

IMHO ACME probably makes the most appropriate wingsuit for this attempt. I think I have seen W.E. Coyote make some test jumps on one.

just do it in a waterfall or a very steep river. Flat water's a bitch.

You might be onto something there. If you got it exactly right and were really lucky you could merely be severely winded, barely conscious, with broken limbs, strapped into a straitjacket, in the water.

Where do I sign up?

yes its posible, throgh your chances will be low and you mostlikely will be a crible if you do survive.

If you're going to land a wingsuit, you have to build a mega ramp on the las Vegas strip, and charge 6 figures... Then its foolproof, on z serious note. With the size of todays matress suits, if you found a long straight road with a decent of about 3-1, and installed a giant slip n slide, and place a pile of empty cardboard boxes as brakes, I think you could walk away from a wingsuit landing. Not practical, not even really cool. but doable... I'll stick to the canopy landings.

don't you think a nice snowy alaska-type mountainside would be easier? I'll also try sticking to canopy landings :P

Jeb's problem is rather trivial for doing a feasibility study to determine if landing a wingsuit is not only possible to survive but to do it uninjured. It comes down to crash test dummy data that the car industry has mastered.

Re: [460] Survive on parachute fail?
i feel that it is completely possible, as well as injury free, but i think it would require its own "wingsuit landing" DZ's which there would never be anyone because who the fuck doesnt like a parachute so much that they want to cut it out and risk slamming into the earth, instead of having a nice short canopy flight... it would need its own retarded apparatus, itll be done, and i just kinda hope someone beats jeb to it, he has this whole rediculous idea of contraption, when there is plenty of earth that allows the right glide angle for no cost except to maybe close down a long stretch of mountain ski slope for a day or so, and to set up some shit to slide on top of instead of plowing into the snow bank and toppling, and to stop forward movment after setting down... you need a plane, a wingsuit, a snowy mountain... and a big pair of balls... no 6 figure bullshit... no water park slide suspended in the air... jeb needs to shit or get off the pot... just saying

1 minute in, he could land that, smooth the snow level, lay down a big ass slide, and a slowing element... done. and thats not a big wingsuit.

Re: [illwreckyourbox] Survive on parachute fail?
I don't think landing on the side of a mountain is the most effective approach. All I can visualize when I think about that is a body tumbling at over 100mph with limbs flying off.
Shortcut
Re: [ForrestDix] Survive on parachute fail?
That's why I think crash test dummy tests and prior dummy test data would be helpful to determine if the human body would disintegrate from the slide.
