Boots – Need Help ASAP

Ok so I’m going to take my FJC course this weekend, leaving on Saturday. Torrey Pines Glider port has been running me around in circles for the last month promising me that I would get the boots that I ordered (crispi GTX). Today the guy on the phone laughed at me and told me that I wont be getting the boots before I leave. They sent my boots to Virginia and this dude in Virginia’s boots to me. Now I’m basically SOL and don’t know what to do. I’m flying into SLC on Saturday afternoon. Does anyone have any suggestion. I need a pair of size 12.5 Hanwags, Crispi, or Kaylands and cant find them anywhere. Do any stores in Twin Falls or SLC area sell these? Does anyone in that area have a used pair I can buy?

This might be a one time issue but the Torrey Pines Glider port customer service has been the worst I have ever experienced.

I haven't done business with these folks since Richard retired / sold out, but they were always awesome to deal with in the past.

I have bought two pairs of Crispi GTX from them.

Thanks bud, they are super nice there but unfortunatley they are all sold out. It seems like there is a shortage of Paragliding boots everywhere

There is at least one really good sporting goods stores in Twin right down by the bridge, but I did the same thing as you and ended up without any because I couldn't find anything appropriate there.

I am sure you have already tried APEX for Hanwags.

Good luck. I won't jump without my Crispis.

Sportsman's Warehouse doesn't stock any of them.

The best bet is probably to order the Kayland's on-line, because they are the most available, and have them delivered to your hotel.

Just don't land hard. you'll be good.

Re: [Rauk] Boots – Need Help ASAP
jeeze i didnt think about that, i guess i can just land in the water each time to be safe :)

Re: [Asgard] Boots – Need Help ASAP
Contact Cloud 9 (paragliders.com). They stock crispis I think. If you can't figure something out, just go to REI when you get to town. REI will have plenty of boots that will perfectly fine for your FJC.

Re: [n_pertuset] Boots – Need Help ASAP
you'll be fine at the perrine with just a regular pair of hiking boots - more help for the hike / climb out than anything else. bring some duct tape if your boots have lace hooks on them. if you're really worried, pick up a pair of lace-up ankle braces at sporting goods store. and let me know if you find someone selling the crispis, i was looking for a pair also.

if you are jumping your own gear, and you land in the water, you are done for the day until you hang your shit up and dry it overnight, so i would think twice before landing in the water intentionally

If there is a breeze your can dry a canopy out in 10-15 min

these have served me well, except for when i plowed in to a tree and broke my ankle, and im not sure anything would have prevented that.

My first 181 BASE jumps were made wearing
pair of black Hi-Tec combat boots purchased
in May of 2006 for $75 or so from the local
Army-Navy store.

They were sufficient for 180 of those jumps...
and definitely good enough for the Perrine.

Re: [kcollier] Boots – Need Help ASAP
You tape up those lace hooks?
Shortcut
Re: [Asgard] Boots – Need Help ASAP
no i dont personally give a fuck about my lace hooks, and i usually wear pants that cover them, but i didnt want to pass along bad habits.

Re: [Asgard] Boots – Need Help ASAP
is it a safe assumption that you're going to twin?

don't stress out too much on the boots. i did my first twelve jumps in reeboks.

boots serve their purpose but they're not a silver bullet. i now jump in a pair of handwags but still managed to break my calcaneous on a bridge jump.

focus on your landings, twin is wide open and i don't care how big your canopy is, don't forget to flair.

Have you ever forgotten?

Re: [kcollier] Boots – Need Help ASAP
Everybody has their own opinion, but my vote is to wear your protective gear even on the "easy" jumps, and ESPECIALLY during a first jump course.

Even at the Perrine people spin into the talus, land in the boulder fields, crash into the trees, or just mess up their landing.

I'd be shy several of my nicer scars if I hadn't decided not to wear my normally present shin/knee protectors on an "easy" jump. Since then, I treat every jump the same and wear it all, every time.

But we all approach BASE in our own way.

Agreed, i picked up a pair of Kayland MTX, they arent the paraglider boots but im sure they will suffice. No hooks and they are built for shock absorbtion. I need a new pair of hikiing boots anyway so i will just use them for hiking after the course and wait for my crispis to come in for future jumps. Thanks everyone!

This would have been awesome to say..

Ok so I’m going to take my FBC First Basketball Course this weekend, leaving on Saturday. Torrey Pines Shoeshop has been running me around in circles for the last month promising me that I would get the shoes that I ordered (Air Jordan Awesomes XTL). Today the guy on the phone laughed at me and told me that I wont be getting the shoes before I leave. :(NOOO! They sent my shoes to Virginia and this dude in Virginia’s shoes to me. Now I’m basically SOL and don’t know what to do! I’m flying into SLC on Saturday afternoon. Does anyone have any suggestion. I need a pair of size 12.5 Air Jordan Awesomes, Rebock SLAMS, or KSwiss all white! and cant find them anywhere. Do any stores in Twin Falls or SLC area sell these? Does anyone in that area have a used pair I can buy?

This might be a one time issue but the Torrey Pines Shoeshop customer service has been the worst I have ever experienced.

Re: [Svin] Boots – Need Help ASAP
I actually jump a lot in my Jordans. I love them; ample ankle support, air cushion sole, and I don't look like I missed the bus to the lumberjack games.

I was looking on Apex site at the Hanwag boots. There are 2 different types:Super Fly GTX and Sky GTX. The price difference is not noticeable...

Could someone say which one is better and why?
The Super Fly are heavier..and I wouldn't like that too much..

Re: [Tedis] Boots – Need Help ASAP
I bought the sky gtx boots and love them. The color sux but they have great support for my bum ankle. They are also easy to walk and climb in. I heard they are significantly less stiff then the super fly gtx blue ones.

I'm kind of scared of ankle injuries though...

I have a pair of superfly GTX. Overall great boots. The only downside I can think of is the hardened thick sole. Initially it felt weird to hike with them on thin trails with a lot of tree roots but after a while I got used to the weird tactile feedback you'll get with them due to their sturdy build. Plus they're pretty challenging boots to climb over fences as the tip of the shoe is very hard and round.

Re: [Arvoitus] Boots – Need Help ASAP
After a few days using the SKY GTX boots i found that they were somewhat awkward to move in. They felt as though you were walking on a wobbely platform.

My Crispis came in a few days after i got back from the bridge and they are great. Easy to run, jump and climb in plus they are really comfortable to wear on long car trips etc.

In case anyone is looking, I found websites which appear to have crispi and hanwag boots in stock.

Re: [Asgard] Boots – Need Help ASAP
Got every pair of Superfly GTX's from Apex. I have tried Cripis but I guess I have a weird shaped foot because they were uncomfortable as hell.

@BASE1361 - I used to think the same way until I landed in some tall grass where a tractor had previously gone through and left a deep trench that was covered by the grass. Rolled my ankle, tore the ligaments. 7 years later and it is still gives out running or jumping. The Superflys are the only thing that I can jump in now.
