So here's the deal we lost Cable Dave my best friend in a cliffstrike yesterday. We jumped a 2-way from the Via Ferrata exit I was on the left side I jumped first so I did not know what happened later on witnesses told me that he had a good exit and after like 2 seconds he started to turn to the wall and he impacted the ledge under the exit on full speed the canopy came out on impact it gave me some hope because i did not see how it happened but when rescue reached him they told me he had no chance. Fly free forewer my BROTHER

Re: [sinjin] Fatality Lauterbrunnen 07/07/2011
Ive already heard several incidents with (often lesser experienced) basejumpers, jumping large-surface wingsuits and having unexpected turns and even rolls shortly after exit. A local jumper came back to the DZ to practice skydiving his wingsuit after several years of only doing base, due to 3 seperate exits where he ended up on his back and flying the wrong direction when he transitioned from exit to full flight.
On a skydive these suits also are noticably more prone to suffer unexpected turns and dives after only minor instability or asymmetry in body position.

Be it by asymmetry or burbles from another jumper, these large-surface area suits (venom, Xbird, Apache, Manta) handle like trucks compared to smaller wingsuits. And recovery and instability is for sure a larger problem compared to normal sized wingsuit models.

Likely he means anything other than the four mentioned above. After jumping a vampire for the majority of my jumps and jumping a venom, the venom made the V3 feel small in comparison.

Rip Dave!
13 days ago I met him in Czech and he said he would go to the valley. I remembered he mentioned he had 150 jumps on his X Bird...so he had good experience on that WS!
