Re: [dan_inagap] Re GreenMachine an d Dan and...
Ok just to clear a few things up here.
My name is Timo, and we wanted to create a documentary on how we get into the sport of BASE jumping called BASEquest. Having never done such a thing before made it quite a difficult endeavour. In order to get funding for the documentary has to be appealing for the broadcasting corporations. So we tried to make it as interesting as possible, and yes by all means we got quite a bit carried away. We created the website (basequest.tv) at a very early stage and before anything was properly planned. Shouldn't have done that, but you got to start somewhere, and we didn't know where. We never got round to removing the episode guide, which was more of a early wishlist anyways. But you gotta dream big to go anywhere in life. Life will correct and set you on the right path anyways. And yes by no means can you swoop after 60 jumps(this would be a self correcting problem). And downsize so quick. Thats actually pretty stupid.
Anyways so we learn. We haven't recieved any funding from any broadcasters, so BASEQuest is not happening. But I guess that this is a good thing. However we refused to hand in the towel, and have now come up with a different idea.
We are inviting 6 Base jumpers and skydivers from all over the world and have them experience africa in a different light, and be Footloose in Africa. its a 69 day roadtrip boogie through Namibia, Botswana and South Africa. Its not all about the jumping, but there will be lots of it.9+DZ's, balloons, helis, paragliders etc. Its a culmination of 8 people and their love for the sport in one group project. We all film each other and create a awesome travel and adventure webseries.
At the moment, me and Nick are in Swakopmund and are skydiving and training hard. Yes it is way harder than it seemed but we are slowly but surely getting there. We are going to have 150 skydives before footloose begins and then do another 100 along the way. And yes me and Nick are getting into BASE, but by no means will we be jumping any advanced sites. No need to rush cause that might be the last one. We'll leave all the big ones for the more experienced jumpers on the trip. And I believe that there is not only one way to do something. Yes most people take years to get into the sport and find the time to get experienced. But we are now training full time for it. On every single skydive we do, we got one thing in mind, and that is BASE. And we do 3-4 a day now. Being frequent is advantageuos i believe.
Which brings me to your comment Dan. I dont know which little imaginary birdie told you that an european BASE jumper did not approve of our BASE ethics. What a load of BS. Please make sure that you have proof before saying things like that.
And yes we totally understand that you guys dont want to have your hard worked exits filmed and disclosed. We would have never revealed the locations anyway, and its not our aim to splash exits all over the web. We just want to film the adventure and excitement, which unfortunately happens at the exit point, and JHB is an awesome place with cool exits. But now answer me this. It seems like you are very camera shy. Would you really be into BASE jumping if you would not have seen it before on and be inspired by some awesome video. Ah didnt think so. If nobody would be filming anything, 95% of people wouldnt even know what a boat is, cause they all live on the main land.
But its cool, I have no hard feelings, I mean your opinion is your opinion. But don't be hatin(as they say) just because we are different to you. it takes many people to make the world go round. And if you JHB guys still feel the same when footloose starts, we have no problem turning our indicators on and driving right past JHB.
Cheers and have a good day
Timo
