Norway fjord jump
After reading Avenfoto's post "why are most new jumpers looking for a shortcut?" I can definitively state that I am not looking for a shortcut as some may be.

What I am looking for is any/all advice from expert B.A.S.E. jumpers regarding what it takes to build up skills to eventually jump from a fjord in Norway. Yes, I realize it's something you see on Youtube and everyone wants to try it, but I'm just looking to start working towards that goal. No shortcuts, just hard work and the hope to one day make it happen.

If you have any information in regards to a timeline of how many skydiving classes or jumps, then how many B.A.S.E. jumps or classes would be suggested/required; your feedback would be greatly appreciated.

Thanks,
The Suit

Re: [TheSuit] Norway fjord jump
I did 5 tandem skydives and watched heaps of youtube before I finally went to Norway. Some people do more, some less. Just do what feels right for you bro.

A few questions

How long have you been skydiving?
How many skydives do you have?

Thanks

Hang on to MBA, He is true as it gets, though he forgot to ask what you are running from.
Take care,

you'll find good information in the Articles section as well as some good threads.

it sounds like you should focus on learning basic parachute survival techniques, i.e. skydiving. focus your energy there and things will develop for you.

Re: [MBA-PATTO] Norway fjord jump
Literally zero experience. My goal is to start from scratch and a few years from now, have built up the experience/skills necessary to make the jump.

My thoughts are to start with skydiving, get at least 100 jumps recorded and then move towards easier BASE DZs and get 50 recorded prior to moving to the more challenging jumps. But in reality, I have no clue if that is anywhere close to where expectations should be set.

I'll keep on reading threads and staying tuned for any new posts. Thanks for taking the time to respond!

Cheers,

DZ's are commercial operations that will greet you with a smile, happily accept your money, walk you through the process, and teach you to jump, no matter how little talent you possess.

they only exist (as far as I can tell) in skydiving. skydiving also has national entities that establish standards. BASE does not. it is up to each jumper to assess the risk and take appropriate action to protect themselves.

If your goal is a Norwegian Fjord jump, read this and other information on the site. I'm not saying it's the only or best way, just a way.

One thing that isn't mentioned enough is that jump numbers aren't the be all and end all. If you go and bang out 100 freefly jumps in a week, you aren't going to learn the same skills as doing a broad mix of jumps over a few months/years.
