Sixsixone EVO pads
Hey all, I'm thinking of buying some new knee and elbow pads, and I'm looking at the EVO series from Sixsixone. The protective portion is made of a new material called "D3O." As far as I'm aware the stuff is somewhat similar to the old cornstarch and water trick that you probably learned as a kid. It's soft and pliable under normal circumstances, but when impacted it hardens up.

Has anyone had any experience with these pads? They're quite a bit more money than their hard shell counterparts, but if they work as advertised I imagine they'll be worth it for climbing comfort, etc... Thanks guys and gals.

Hey, I was looking at these but after talking to a bunch of bike buys decided to get similar ones from POC

Haven't had a chance to really test them, but wore them for 1/2 day + jumped them and really thought they were comfortable. They are also light and flexible. A buddy also took a hammer and hit my knee... and pads were fairly good in terms of protection. After several seconds, a slight pain was gone.
Was looking at also buying the jacker armor in the future.

I'm using the EVO pads for all my jumps. They are really nice, flexible and you nearly don't feel them.

Even if I don't have that much jumps they saved my knees at least once while landing on a rocky river side.

A couple reviews of the POC ones said that the knee pads tend to slide down your leg, did you find that at all?

Yeah that does happen but its not really an issue for BASE IMO. It tends to happen to mine when climbing an A, or running around a lot in them, but you can always just readjust the pads right before you exit. Ive never had them slip down my leg in freefall or under canopy; you have to be moving around a lot more actively for that to happen if you size them correctly.

They definitely do NOT provide as much protection as hard shell pads, but personally I was never willing to wear hard shell pads due to bulk and discomfort. These are comfy and not a burden to wear so to me its worth it to at least have some type of padding on my body vs nothing at all.

Most of them while biking will slip down because of sweat and lots of movement. Should be much better for base where there is minimal movement from when you put them on as compared to a 20 minute downhill bike.

That said, I use the evo pads and love them. They feel light, pliable and barely noticeable when I bike. Super protective too, I took a good digger or five with them. THey're still tough.
