my tentative plan a revisit
after reading the other thread. I wondering If you want to hop and pop a base canopy from a plane say you had a skydiving rig that held a pd 300 9 cell main. could you shoe horn a 305 7 cell base canopy in the rig? put a sail slider on it and jump it several time without significant wear to the canopy? Smile and yes i'm a different keith

yes you want to do
yes you can do it

and yes, you SHOULD do it. It will help you learn the canopy flight as well as adjust your break settings.

thanks. so i guess I'm asking if you just do a normal skydiving pro pack on the canopy. put it in the dbag and jump. shouldn't be any issues with the deployment of a vented canopy packed that way? I guess .? maybe?Wink

I freepacked a ace into a student rig, and jumped that from a plane, The only rule I had to follow was to have a d bag so i just laid that on top of the finished pack before closing.

I remember doing it to better simulate base openings Blush(I had no BASE at the time) and for canopy time. To be honest if I was to do it again il just pro pack in bag as its quicker and just the canopy time that matters.

haha, nice. actually, that's a good idea for another reason: you can lay it between the closing loop and the canopy in order to prevent burns/holes while closing up the container.

I have a big container (previously used by the skydiving club's student rig) which holds my FliK293.
I freepack it without the D-bag and with the small mesh slider that came with the canopy.
I do a regular pro-pack with the exeption of tying the slider to the c-lines with rubber band, just the same as I would be doing on a SU base.
Essentially all I have to do to go from SU base to skydiving with the same canopy is detach/re-attach the 3-rings, pack and I'm good to go. (using the student gear main risers also in base)

If you can get your hands on a similar set-up, do not miss your chance to go and do the jumps. It's very usefull as practice - not to mention a whole lotta fun :D
