body armor sale till May 15
Attention: motorcyclists, BASE jumpers, skydivers, and others who could use this type of body armor. (No, it's not ballistic armor to protect against firearms projectiles.) Please share this link with your friends. I have no pecuniary interest in this company. I'm just looking out for others who might be interested in a quality product to improve safety.

High Velocity Gear is having a group buy discount that ends on the 15th of May. After that date, the discounted price of $119 (in the US) will go back to the regular $179. This is less expensive than their next-to-top-of-the-line model. I like their products because they appear to be constructed of quality materials, they're less expensive than the competition, AND they have a lifetime (half-price replacement) warranty.

I especially recommend this for motorcyclists, because as you know, the skinny pads that come with most motorcycle jackets just don't cut it. And this provides more coverage than a back protector that is required by many tracks. Click on this link for details.

this is great for motorcycles, but as for base, im jsut going to point out the limited motion in putting your arms above your head, full suits like this make it really difficult to climb antennas or anything similar since you are fighting the armor as well as gravity. thats my $.02

The full suit has "Removable, Stand Alone Back Protection" or it can be purchased separately, without arms.

I have this velocity suit. I use it for DH MTB. It's kinda bulky with sooo many snag points. Don't think it's good for base or any sport where mobility is required. I still love it so much that I changed the old zippers, straps, hardware and resewn the panels.Cool
And I wouldn't even imagine climbing anything in that thing.

But, as Zephyr pointed out, you can still wear the back protector only. I do this sometimes to have more degrees of freedom.

Got any pix of it? :)

Hundreds of base jumps on mine, mostly the spine protector only now-adays even slider up wingsuit... Never know when that line-over will come.

It is a bulky suit, but I have jumped it into some narly landing areas slider down. It doesn't inhibit your mobility a whole lot, just the shoulder cups suck.

The zippers though deteriorated and the only thing jumped now is the spine protector, it's over 4 years old. The suit does not hold up too well over time, but the spine protector has done ok (thanks duct tape!)and adds very little to any jump.

I have a chest plate spine protector combo from another manufacturer now for the 'harder' slider down jumps. It provides almost no bulk, and no change in mobility since it has no shoulder protection.

I never wore the thing though without a large full sleeve t-shirt on a jump. It is a little snag happy. I also used it for some down hill mountain biking.

I agree though, I wouldn't like to climb anything in it. But then again, I can't imagine a situation like that arising where it would be a long climb geared up in that thing.

I have also downwinded that suit into a rock garden and tree and walked away. without it, I imagine I would have broke some ribs and damaged some other parts and fleshy bits.

However better judgement making and skill at the time of that jump would have negated its need.

six six one.

Mine isn't the 2011 though, but the shoulder pads are minimal. Don't get me wrong, the velocity gear one offers more protection, but in my opinion not a significant amount more.

I have jumped a lot of different pad combos. I started out a lot more into the pads/body armor/boots. For me early on I believe they were somewhat of a 'crutch' offsetting my inexperience and providing a false sense of security. Now they are more of an insurance policy in case my judgement making goes in the shitter, or I decide to do something a 'little' stupid.

The best protection though is experience and common sense. Too bad no one sells that.

I'll make some, but it's basically the same thing, only added some homemade legstraps to hold it down because the whole thing constantly lifted up on bumpy rides for some reason.

I use a similar body armour. I did find the shoulder cups reduced mobility for climbing ladders and even worse, for reaching for the risers/toggles, so i just unpicked the stitching and took them off. With these gone i don't think the suit adds any bulk which would cause a problem.
I use it for low slider down lumps where, if i have an offheading, i will not have time to pick a desirable landing spot. In this case i'm not too worried about extra snag points (as in the elbow pads) becuase if you are in a position this low, where you will snag something, then you are screwed anyway.
I like how the mesh and the kidney belt keep all the pads in place and am sure the kidney belt has stopped me from pissing blood at least a couple of times.
