South America

I'm interested in hearing from locals or others in the know regarding which locales of Argentina, Brazil, or Chile are rich in BASE opportunities (the SU variety). Such as any must-visits for a trip to that region. I'd imagine the jump season there is quite long. Thank you.

I wouldn't count too much about Argentina or Chile. they've got big mountains, but not the kind with big vertical walls.

Maybe Brasil has more opportunity.

Re: [tr027] South America
i agree that Brazil is the better option. I've just come back from an extensive trip through south america and there is suprisingly very little to jump over there. Chile/Argentina have some big walls in the patagonian region but the weather there is 95% unjumpable with regular very strong winds. Also almost every big wall there would require ropes/mountaineering gear etc (or chopper) to get to the exit points.....big missions!

Brazil on the other hand has some good stuff from what i have seen, but i didnt get the chance to do any jumping over there, so the best bet is to find the locals.

If you visit Colombia, in my opinion, it's not really worth bringing a rig. There are jumpable objects there (like anywhere), but in the few months there I never once wished I had my rig (except for maybe a paraglider jump, but definitely not worth the hassle).

However, if you do visit Colombia, do some paragliding!

Raging in brazil right now. Some good but very technical wing suit flights. 140 meter rock drop.

If your interest is base jump in SouthAmerica, the best country to go and jump is Brazil. Has lots of base jumper in activity in Brasil, with really nice spot. Pedra Onça is a 600 meter cliff, 4 hour driving to the North of Rio de Janeiro. The walk is a little bit more that one hour, hot weather and high humidity. But you will love the place, nice landing area. You should contact some local. In Rio de Janeiro city, has lots of jumpable B, inclusive with landing on the beach. Pedra Gávea, is a Slider down/off jump or really big WS jump (X-Bird 2 or Apache), and one hour away you have antennas and bridge if you want complete all the categories of object there.
I'm Chilean, and here we have lots of low object, many of then PCA or SPC. In Argentina, I know some 200 meters antennas.
I could give you all kind of detail, dr.rojas@gmail.com.
