Ropejumping as exit practice?
So, we want to rig up a ropejumping system on a 90ft bridge.
It's probably a bad idea, but it seems to be pretty safe with 2 full body harnesses, three 11mm ropes, kisa, etc.. Do you think it could be considered as a safe way to practice exit techniques? I mean, skydiving is only canopy control, water jumps hurt. It seems to be the only way. What do you think?
And fyi, it won't be anything like the pictures.

It seems to me like you should instead use BASE as practice for ropejumping.

Theres a guy thats posts on here name Calvin19. He's got a lot of exp. with rope set-up. I've personally seen one him and his crew rigged up in Moab and it was sick stuff. He may chime in here or try PM

Don't forget about using bungee cord. Less technical.

Re: [uer16] Ropejumping as exit practice?
I originally had the same train of thought years ago but since realized it is very impractical. Setting up a rope jump is much harder and more dangerous than you might think. just practice BASE by having someone teach you. It's safer, takes less time and is just as fun.

PS. if you do try to make one, do it to rope jump.... and research it a lot.

Yeah, you're probably right. I will still make it for the fun aspect though.
As for using bungee cord, what's wrong about using dynamic rope with a friction shock absorber? And with a pulley system it will only be a factor 0.5, maybe less. And 2 separate non-loaded(until 1st one fails) reserve ropes.

Its all in your head. Get it in your mind and your body will follow!

Re: [gauleyguide] Ropejumping as exit practice?
So, the way I do my exits:

1) imagine a horizontal bar, 10 feet horizontally in front of you at head level, but 2 or 3 feet above your head.

2) thrust your arms up, chest out, and leap looking at the imaginary bar with your arms pretending to grab the imaginary bar.

there. that's how your make a good exit.

Re: [460] Ropejumping as exit practice?
stop the rope jumping. you're going to hurt your joints and physique in ways that will only become apparent as you get older. your exit looks great.

Re: [460] Ropejumping as exit practice?
Well, i never tried any real ropejumping yet, that's why i asked. Don't think it will hurt with fb harness.
btw, the pics are obviously photoshop if you zoom in, also, the rope is Vento static ropeCrazy If that guy really jumped, his legs would have been ripped off.

To add to that, once you leave the object, freeze!

Yep, you are right Alan...

IF you left Good, don't flail, I have done that.

Turned a sweet solo from 1050 the day after
my birthday into a near death experience w/
me dumping slider up after 3 seconds while
facing the fucking tower head down.

BUT if you left bad you can fix things in the
mix, but it requires matrix mind manipulation.
I once did a running exit from 315' feet off of
the antenna's platform and caught something
with my right toe, just as I was about to leave.

Again, was head down and to the left looking
at fucking steel, so I whipped my torse in a
strong back-flip motion and pitched up and
to the right, by the time the wing was coming
off my back I was belly to earth, head up,
and almost aware of the whip-lash I just
traded for other more worse health problems.

Be careful out there and try to be lucky Wink

the "pendulator" IS a ropejump folks...
you dont need a 90ft bridge either..

personally i dont understand whats so hard about a solid stable exit anyway. i mean i am the best base jumper on the internet, everything is easy for me.

Re: [uer16] Ropejumping as exit practice?
You don't need more than 10' jump into water to practice exits.

Rope jumping is awesome, just way to much work for useless 'exit practice' benefit.
Bridge pendulums are easy (like the one you described), but still account for the most rope jumping accidents and deaths.

I would say stick with belly flops off a 1, board or even the side of the pool.

So we've been doing this for almost 6 years now, and it works great. Very goo practice for exits, learning to push hard, PC throws, aerials, you name it. And during all that time, just 2 accidents, both related to experienced jumpers screwing around. In short, it works.

any footage from cliffs? I'm most interested in doing cliffs. We call them "glory whippers" when getting to the top of an overhanging sport climbing route and pulling up slack and jumping. Like 30-40 feet are common/casual.

The upper back tie in point seems like it would make it 10x as much fun as doing it with a regular climbing harness. And safer probably too for long falls.

Any more footage would rock! Thanks for sharing
