Hello 2 all.

A fellow Comrade and I were discussing opening characteristics and we have a question.

We use the fox. And he says he tried a Trango in Switzerland last year.

our question is if the opening shock of a fox/flik or versus something considered "ultralight" "microlight" or "low density"

a third buddy of ours injured his back in a dirtmoto accident (dumb ass) and the reason we ask all this is because he wants to keep jumping but is questioning a spankers effect on his spinal cord.
he does/did wingsuit too.

does anyone own enough different canopies to suggest or explain which canopies they think open softer.
p.s other debate is do bigger sizes of dacon open softer then smaller sized of dacron? or is dacron dacron?

thank you 2 all
blessings and peace

I think this will get more attention in the Technical forum.

When using a slider, the thickness of the lines can have a small effect on the openings: thicker lines - more friction in the slider grommets - slower opening.

Re: [tunis] Variety
You're probably going to be better off changing the slider. Put a ZP slider on any BASE canopy and it's going to open _a lot_ slower and softer.

I'd focus on how you rig the canopy and how you pack it first--those can make a bigger difference than changing the canopy itself.

When I broke my back in 1999, I made my first jumps back on a Blackjack, but I put a ZP slider on it and had a friend PCA me off a bridge. I then worked up very gradually to freefall, mesh slider, no slider...you get the idea. I think your friend is going to be best off doing a similar gradual progression to find out where his new limits are.

wow thank you

sorry for response delay time

our internet is not always on and blackouts happen.

do you guys have suggestion for canopy with softer or longer opening characteristics .. this is for alpine stuff

any suggestions/comments on flik ultralight vs flik microlight?

dear tom,

what is the extent of your back injury? and can you explain some tips you may have and how you cope?

we know he will not be a frequent jumper any more, but really want to check off the list (and possibly check off the list twice or three times) of doing some big wall stuff and some proximity flights in the future..

does anyone have an opinion on a flik ultralight vs flik microlight? with zp slider and dacron?

realistically he is slider up only..

and i this may not help but as he recovers he has done some amounts of load testing (to +7 G's in aircraft) with good results..

we appreciate you all

god bless humanity

also ps.

may sound dumb but we trying to cover all angles,

would not having a 3 ring connection, and only direct conncetion to harness, does anyone think this will change the opening shock (even minor amounts?) it all adds up so we just making sure we check..

also a question from the man himself, hes curious to container manufacturers,

if he pays extra (you decide how much) would they be willing to double the amount of leg padding/back padding? or mem foam?

it all adds up :)

give thanks

Re: [tunis] Variety

Perhaps instead of modifying the harness
a cheaper solution, get your buddy a pair
of impact shorts.

I bought a pair after getting purple thighs
from getting slammed doing 14 tandems
a day out of a cessna on crappy canopies.

They really helped me w/ rough openings,
slide landings on hot no wind days, and
kept my ass from falling asleep when fat
passengers would smush/lean/lay on you.
