Has anyone Hop and Popped an OSP? If so what are the openings like comfort wise, and did you use a sail or mesh slider? I have recently ordered one and I am wondering if it's wise to order a sail slider as well.
If you are asking would I use a Sail slider on a OSP for a BASE jump, then the answer is no. If however you are asking would I use a sail slider on an OSP jumping from an aircraft, then the answer is why not? I understand that a 5 second delay from an aircraft gives you the same vertical speed as a 5 second delay from an object, and so the opening force is the same. I also understand that a sail slider and a large mesh slider if subject to zero airspeed will also have similar opening speeds and it is only until the the airspeed on the slider increases that the effects on the opening speeds start to become substantial. Therefore a sail slider will produce a slower opening canopy at higher speeds, and seeing as I am doing a hop and pop from several thousand feet and their is no immediacy for my canopy to be open straight away I see no issue in using a sail slider for a hop and pop jump.
i took a 6 second delay with my OSP out of a tandem paraglider. it opened beautifully, but ive never gone deeper than that. i would just pack slider up with a large hole mesh if you must take it out of a plane, but you should be fine. and if you really dont feel comfy, put duct tape over the vents in conjunction with the big mesh slider.
I have a dozen or so hop and pops with my OSP out of a 182 using the mesh slider (obviously up), both free packed and with a d-bag, taking < 3 sec delays. None of the openings have been anywhere close to hard.

I wasn't the sharpest knife in the drawer in school, but I'm pretty sure the opening force is calculated from the product of the vertical and the horizontal speed. V in the attached image. Correct me if I'm wrong.

Like I said a gaping hole in his knowledge, but hey ho he has a couple of hundred skydives so he will be just fine.
That's physics not "general parachute knowledge", so that statement is full of shit, but hey ho. Anyway what's a matter? You seem to have a problem with me. Come an sit on my lap and tell me all about it.
The statement is very relevant. Stop, Think, Compute!
No problem , I just think you are a bit of a tit, who (i hope I am wrong) is very likely to either hurt/kill himself or worse still burn a lot of local objects I jump.
Jools, my buddy, ol pal. I tell you what, you give me a list of the objects you jump (through PM, we wouldn't want any idiot knowing about them would we) and I'll avoid them. One thing, I act like a tit, and I am a tit. Why? It's fun, I enjoy not taking life seriously, but when it comes down to my safety, and BASE I read up as much as I can and I prepare myself as much as I can. I know when to be a tit and when to take things seriously.
the manufacturer recommends not taking it to terminal.
As I understand it ,'the manufacturer' takes OSP's to terminal on a regular basis as I have with mine.
I don't know Stane's set up for terminal on the OSP, but I use a large mesh slider and roll the none 3 & 3 with the centre cell closed and buried. No noticeable difference between the Troll & the OSP with this set-up.
THE OSP CANOPY IS FOR SLIDER DOWN AND SUB TERMINAL BASE JUMPS ONLY!
SUB TERMINAL MEANS A MAXIMUM OF 8 SECONDS FREEFALL USING THE SUPPLIED SUB TERMINAL SLIDER
FOR DELAYS OF 0 TO 3 SECONDS IT IS RECOMMENDED TO JUMP SLIDER DOWN. FOR 4 to 8 SECONDS IT IS RECOMMENDED TO USE THE SUPPLIED SUB TERMINAL SLIDER.
USING THE OSP FOR TERMINAL FULL SPEED (MORE THAN 8 SECONDS) BASE JUMPS MAY RESULT IN EQUIPMENT DAMAGE OR FAILURE AND BODILY INJURY.
I did mine with a regular mesh slider...nothing bad at all, out of a grand caravan. But it did open quick enough for me to hear the engine of the plane flying away at 13.5!
1. Jump your SKY rig, land, and cutaway sans RSL 2. Connect any BASE canopy on risers to your rig 3. Pack it pro, flat, reserve, any way you want, SU* 4. Fold canopy to fit inside a plastic shopping bag 5. Exit plane with back to relative wind 6. Remove bag and stow it, no littering
* I forgot to raise the slider once on a Mojo280 hurt real bad, think I cried a little, but that was 5 years ago, and my attention to detail is much better now
