Bridge day on Greenie?
I was reading on
http://www.bridgeday.info/legal365.php and it stated "In addition, the third tallest bridge in the USA is currently working on their own multi-day Bridge Day on the West Coast."
Is this true and does anyone have more information about an event as stated?

Re: [halorob] Bridge day on Greenie?
IT WAS SUPPOSE TO BE A "CANYON" GAMES TYPE DEAL WITH BIKE , RUNNING, AND HORSE RACING WITH SOME WATER SPORTS AND OF COURSE base JUMPING. INVITE ONLY. STATE PARKS TO MY UNDERSTANDING WOULDNT GIVE A L.Z. SO NO base. I DONT KNOW WHAT HAPPEND TO THE REST. THIS WAS LAST SUMMER. EVERYONE IS SO HUSH, HUSH AROUND HERE THOUGH SO THATS WHAT I PIECED TOGETHER.

Re: [jasonnever] Bridge day on Greenie?
That sucks... I "visited" this object on my way north. It seemed like a crime for this place not to be legal. I guess it doesn't really stop anyone from jumping it, but a whole day to play here would be nice.

Re: [halorob] Bridge day on Greenie?
I learned "illegally" on this object as did many, many, many others. It's really is too bad The United States of Lawyers can't stop suing for fucked up reasons like willingly throwing yourself off fixed objects with a parachute. So sad. Yes a legal event at this place would be magical

Re: [dride] Bridge day on Greenie?
The IPBC had a legal weekend of jumping from this bridge in 1998. We jumped her at every possible location (catwalk, pillar, lower steel, through the steel, etc.) Dennis and Brenda got married on the catwalk that weekend, then jumped.

Don't hold your breath in hopes of a legal event there, although the right people are working on it.

Wont be until 2014 anyway when they finish construction. Does anyone actually jump that thing anymore?
Shortcut
Re: [hjumper33] Bridge day on Greenie?
Well since the bridge was handed over to me, everyone goes through me to jump it. I do not approve everyone. Only those I deem fit are able to taste freefall off MY bridge.

MAYBE.

Re: [SLAMBO] Bridge day on Greenie?
Well, according to the offical records of the " Nor-Cal Base Association Object Ownership Log " Chapter 2, Paragraph 13 of the bi-laws clearly states: You have to actually be in California to claim ownership of a Nor Cal object. So that eliminates you Slambo....

I have never seen such paperwork. Thats a fabrication. And I still live there...Just email me for permission next time you go.

I've been wanting to drive back up there to jump again, will you give me permission to jump or will I have to break your laws too!

Edit: + 1 to horse racing, only I have a jackass available. Does that count? It's half horse!

Re: [ChrisHall] Bridge day on Greenie?
Inappropriate, Chris. And for the record, it's because the toxic pilot chute deliberately evaded my hand for three seconds and the seven uses the Western Hemisphere Toggle Riser System (WHTRS), which is obviously unfamiliar to me. Besides, it's Slambo's bridge, and he loves my balls.

Re: [halorob] Bridge day on Greenie?
The big Greenie is now undergoing a major 74 millon dollar seismic rehab that will also add the 2 center lanes in the middle that were always missing for a total of 4 lanes. Right now the southern side of the bridge is closed to the public but the north side is open to pedestrians.

The sad part is a 2 foot high mesh fence (still climbable) was added to the top of the 4 foot railing since a May 2011 suicide. As part of the rehab, the fence will eventually become a more permanent one 6.5 feet high but some groups are pushing for 8 feet with an inward curve to prevent suicides which now total 59 since the span opened or about 2 a year on average. So if you want to get in an easy jump, now is the time to do it.

As for a BASE event, it might be best to have it sometime in the next year or two as I would wonder how it would go over with public to have BASE jumpers having to climb some kind of temporary 8 foot high platform that would have to be created for the event and the mixed messages it might send to the taxpayers who just got a big bill for an expensive fence meant to discourage jumpers even if BASE jumpers are doing it for fun and not to end their lives.

I would also imagine the fence might make it difficult to view the falling BASE jumpers if you can't look down and these events are always green lighted more for the entertainment of the viewing public then the BASE jumpers themselves.

Re: [HighestBridges] Bridge day on Greenie?
I think those high fences with the inward curve are major eye sores. Beside us BASE jumpers, I think those ugly things effect everyone in the community by obstructing the beautiful view. Why would a city be willing to pay millions of dollars to muck up an awesome landmark and obstruct their own gorgeous view just to protect a couple people a year from THEMSELVES!?
Shortcut
Re: [hikeat] Bridge day on Greenie?
won't the fences add more expense to Hollywood productions?

it seems like they could chase away income.

"Why would a city be willing to pay millions of dollars to muck up an awesome landmark and obstruct their own gorgeous view just to protect a couple people a year from THEMSELVES!?"

because bureaucracies are irrational.
Shortcut
Irrational Fear Response
Parents tend to be overly protective and people
with kids are more likely to vote, so unfortunately
their conservative know-it-all protect-everyone
mentality gets sadly OVER represented.

Consequently bureaucracies rationally pander to
this irrational tendency in decisions regardless of
the actual logic or economics of the situation.

Of course I always Vote for personal freedom.

In reply to:

That is incorrect.

In reply to:

Also incorrect. WTF!

In reply to:

They will never allow it during the construction phase. It mould be more likely to have it at the end of the construction, to show off the NEW bridge. But thats a slim chance.

Respectfully...If you dont live in this Town, then dont be posting shit about our Bridge!Wink

Re: [ChrisHall] Bridge day on Greenie?

The bridge deck access will obviously change depending on what lanes or sides of the bridge are being worked on but I cannot imagine the bridge will be more BASE friendly when it is completed with high fencing and possible changes to catwalk access. That would make now a better time to jump then later, no?

Here is the article on the current bridge status and suicide.

Also incorrect, the 2 foot extension went on after a March suicide. And failed to stop the most recent jumper...

User "highestbridges" isn't a jumper, but is on our side and runs the http://www.highestbridges.com website. He's pretty much an expert on all types of bridges and has traveled the world researching them. I would suggest you contact him offline at his website.

Cool website for sure, however it does not make him an authority on the subject at hand. Please stick to what you know.
