Heliboogie 2011
Hello, all. I'm planning on going to the heliboogie this year, and I'm finding the travel to be more complicated than I thought. The easiest flight I can find that works with my time off work gets me into Stavanger at 11am on Tue june 21. The problem is the ferry doesnt leave Stavanger on Tuesdays, and it looks like the tourist ferry leaves at 10am. I can meet up with the ferry at Lauvik at 2pm, but its a $150 taxi ride to get there from the airport. There does seem to be buses to Sandes on a regular basis, and some buses from Sandes to Lauvik, but the schedules were too confusing for the likes of me to decipher. It looks like I have the same problem when leaving on Sunday. Anybody been through this before and know a good solution? Or are there likely to be other basejumpers that have the same problem and maybe we can get a taxi van and bring that cost down? Thanks big heaps.

Re: [Jubal] Heliboogie 2011
There is always someone coming over in a car around this time from stavanger, i guess if you advertise on the facebook page (stavanger base klubb) or on the heliboogie one looking for a ride, maybe someone will pick you up....

i did write up a big article for everyone when they come to stavanger and kjerag its in the article section up above...if you pm me your email i will send you a email with maps and everything that the previous instructor made up for me

but if that all fails, then your best bet is to get a bus from airport to ferry docks when you arrive and get the bus to sandes, lauvik, then catch the ferry to lysbotn...it gets confusing but if ya do your homework you will make it no worries mate,...

if ya cant be bothered doing that then you can always just get a room at the skansen hotel down on the docks, have a good night out at the bars and see if your good looks and basejumping will help ya pick up a model norge, then wake up early run from her house and get ya shopping and get ferry in morning...its been done mate...and you would arrive between the heliboogie...as long as you register you will get to jump no worries...

good luck

hi,
go see Stavanger on Tuesday and take the tourist ferry on Wednesday. look into the Best Western Havly Hotel. when I was there a few years back they offered a discount for base jumpers. it is also close to grocery stores and a few pubs down by the water...

I had the same problem several years ago, flight got in just between both ferries. Getting to Lysbotn one afternoon earlier is not that big a deal, I know you'll be excited to get there and start jumping but staying overnight is the way to go. As others have said, grab a rm at the BW which is walking distance to the ferry terminal. The chicks in Norway are sooooo fuckin' hot it's insane. They're crawlin all over the bars so put your best calone on hit up the town. The room and drinks are not cheap (nothing in Norway is) but totally worth it to save you all the stress of "trying" to get there with different taxis, busses, ferries, etc. Definitly put up a post to see if any other jumpers will be staying overnight and ya'll can split the room (and girls if thats how ya roll Tongue)

One last huge bonus of staying overnight in STV in the grocery shopping. Buy as much as you can carry (dep on how long ur there) and I guarantee it'll save you big time.

Have fun!!

Re: [MBA-PATTO] Heliboogie 2011
That was a great article you wrote, MBA. I've read it more than once in looking at my options. I always appreciate it when people take the time to put in the details. I'll definitely PM you for your maps and such. But what I'm really wondering if anyone has tried the bus route from Stavanger airport to Lauvik. I think there is an airport shuttle to Sandes, but a bus from there to Lauvik seems less likely since Lauvik is so small. On a side note, anyone staying in Europe for a while to do more big walls? I was thinking about flying to Italy and renting a car, maybe do the Italian wall, possibly the swiss valley if I have the cajones. Laugh
