Sub-Roof?
So I was out scouting an object today. I obviously won't go in to detail about what/where, etc... but it's a B.

On the floor below the roof access hatch there's a door labeled "sub-roof." I didn't have the ability at the time to open it, but I'm thinking (from rudimentary imaging on Google Earth and a bit of logic) that there are 2 levels on top of the building open to the sky: The roof and the sub-roof. This would seem to make sense as the sub-roof was a door and the roof was a hatch. So my questions to those who might have more knowledge of B's are these: Is that assumption likely correct? If so, once on the sub-roof do you think there will be some variety of access (ladder/stairs) on to the "roof-roof"? Thanks guys and gals.

PS: This is obviously a sensitive subject, so I've created an anonymous BJ.com account so as not to give away my location, etc... I'm really sorry if this offends anyone, as I believe it's technically against the rules. If anyone doesn't feel comfortable responding in the public forum, please PM me and we can converse by email or phone. Thanks again for your help all, I'm really interested in this object.

Re: [infoaboutab] Sub-Roof?
Contrary to your suggestion about getting to the roof-roof from the sub-roof, I have come across two buildings with the opposite. In both cases the main roof was smaller than the sub-roof. I had to slide down a pole to get to the 'sub-roof' area to be able to get over the edge. These areas were also accessible by doors but they had alarms on them. The hatch didn't.

Hmmm, interesting. I don't believe that the door onto the sub-roof is alarmed, but I will be extra sure before I attempt to breach it. The reason I'm interested in this access point is because the hatch is secured closed with a very heavy duty padlock (Abloy 330: http://www.abloy.com/...52&productId=571) and the door is locked with (what looks like) an easily pickable doorknob lock.

Also, in your experience have your B's had cameras on the roof?

Re: [infoaboutab] Sub-Roof?
I have not yet seen a roof camera.

I have jumped a building where the
sub-roof level was full of A/C units
with ladder leading up to the roof
but this was all in the center of the
B while the corner exit point was
accessible only by the hatch.

The B I swam off had a facade/wall
that made accessing the edge of the
roof virtually impossible without a tall
ass ladder, which was why we went with
the lower but cleaner observation deck.

Good Luck Smile

Re: [GreenMachine] Sub-Roof?
Hmmm, so it's seeming like the whole sub-roof thing is somewhat common. I may end up going and attempting to access it again before the jump so I know exactly what I'm up against and if it's even possible (the whole facade/wall thing).

Re: [infoaboutab] Sub-Roof?
Dug a little deeper for some aerial shots of the downtown core for a view with some angle to them in an attempt to see depth and found the attached image. I also attached the zoomed in GE image. After further review it looks to me like the sub-roof is a recessed "pit" of sorts where the A/C units are. Now the only question that remains is whether or not the actual roof can be accessed from that sub-roof or if it requires going through the hatch. If that's the case, does anyone have any ideas for that padlock?

PS: Did my best to only show the top of the building so as not to give away the location. If you have any guesses please keep them to yourselfSmile

Re: [infoaboutab] Sub-Roof?
I have been on several B's with cameras on the roof. Most of them the access door to the roof had a camera pointing at it. It depends what the B is, Casino, hotel, appartments, corporate business. Casinos and corporate buildings seem to have all had cameras.

From what I've seen, there is a pretty good chance that there will be an access point to the roof-roof, but weather you will be able to exit or not from there, thats a different question. So i would definitely try the sub-roof before breaching th padlock. Think about it, a small hatch with a vertical ladder is not really handy when it comes to moving heavy equipment...

Just don't stick you're head into the peculiar and somewhat out of place seeming plywood box on the edge of the roof. It could be a nesting box with a live feed to the internet! The bird watchers will wonder who that guy with a go-pro is and why is he eye to eye with a peregrine falcon.

Re: [derka] Sub-Roof?
Haha, there's actually a sign near the hatch that says Caution: Falcon Season and lists dates.

Good point about moving equipment onto the roof, that makes a lot of sense.

Re: [infoaboutab] Sub-Roof?
I am on the occasional roof and I would put money on being able to access the upper roof from the pit. There should at least be a way to access the top of those two large units for maintenance, sometimes a ladder bolted directly to the unit, if not a ladder that goes direct to the upper roof.
