jumping alone
There are no base jumpers in my state. I have to jump alone if I want to jump. I have 2 base jumps both from antennas. one with a mentor one alone. I took someone with me who knows gear ( he has been packing for 6 years and has 8 jumps)to give me a gear check before the climb. any advise plz.

Re: [DiverStump] jumping alone
Hey Stump!

I would go to a legal, stress- free environment where I could do lots of jumps, and packjobs to get very current and gain confidence in the opening characteristics of my canopy, my body position, my pilot chute technique etc. just to get a feeling of how those things influence my openings etc.

Then as far as jumping alone goes. I would again make sure I'm current, so I can do my own gearcheck, and I'm sure my bridle is routed correctly (if handheld) etc...
My preference would be to find someone who i can call before and after the jump, so I'm not alone in case of an accident.

There are also emergency beacons for sports, that work via satelite, that do that automatically, and that have an emergency button in case you get hurt.

I think it's called spot messenger..

If you don't know gear, why are you jumping?

Re: [DiverStump] jumping alone
The only thing I have to say is realize what your getting into when jumping alone, and be able to live (or die) by the consequences.

Since I started BASE I made a lot of my jumps alone. After being in a plane crash, in which I saw some severe carnage and was severely incompacitated, it makes me think twice about solo jumping. I would not have made it without help on the ground and would have been burned alive.

I still do some solo jumps (although not as often), but I now understand the consequences and take the proper percautions more so than before.

Be safe out there.

Good Jumps + Good Friends = Good Times
I have solo'd several objects for an
estimated total of 50+ BASE jumps.

I almost always have my 'OGC' on
standby with data about my location
and call her before and after the jump.

However, occasionally cell reception is
shitty, if I am on top, feeling it, and the
winds are favorable I jump anyways...

Watching the movie 127 Hours shows
how when shit goes wrong having the
right gear and/or friends is worth gold.

Agreed. If I ever get hung up on an object I'm going to save time by going directly to amputation Wink
