As long as the passengers wear all white jumpsuits, I see no problem with this. You do bring up a good point though. This will probably destroy legal BASE, just like tandem skydiving destroyed legal skydiving.

did tandem skydives fuck it up for everybody? I get paid in skydiving so I can travel the world BASE jumping...way to go tfalls cowboys...way to have fun and make money...if they do fuck it all up maybe BASE will be illegale and we will just have to jump with our friends because we love it

the only thing they could fuck up is tandem base... did they shut down the bridge after the first accident second... and so on. pca no matter how much wing loading isnt going to go that bad. tandem skyding is how you get into skydiving. anyone can do it. whats the big difference, good luck to Abbie and friends.
do you now how many people have asked me how can I do that or how do you get into that at the bridge?
If they can make 400 a jump why not?
probably safer that inexperienced jumpers like me making the plunge.

for the record, there are multiple threads discussing the tandem BASE operation in TF. some support it, some do not. (but BASE jumpers seem to have a problem coming to consensus!
)

this website prefers to keep discussions in a single thread. it tends to make the conversation between users more coherent. sadly, it only works when people are interested in what others have already said. researching old threads is like contacting the locals to determine what is already known. if skipped, a jumper can claim they "opened" a site that has been jumped for decades!

So you work as a tandem instructor and camera flyer but these guys are fucking up BASE?

Yep, been towing drogues for years, hauling luggage and never claiming to be any form of 'instructor'. Whether tandem has been to the detriment of skydiving or not is still being debated, but that's another story.

There is a difference though. Tandem skydiving has a robust organisation behind it that ensures a couple of important things. There is a system in place that means that the TI has reached a certain standard and theoretically has the ability to conduct the operation successfully. BASE has no such checks & balances in place, therefore any clown can set to work to start their own tandem operation using gear to their own design - which has not necessarily been thoroughly tested.
Secondly, if the punter wishes to continue skydiving after their 1st jump, they will learn through a reputable organisation that has learnt from the many mistakes from the past. Tandem BASE has no such organisation in place, and the chances are very soon we'll have people out there empowered with the minimal knowledge that they have gained, accessing a rig, strapping a Gopro on their head and getting more 'excellent' footage to post on YouTube.
Time will tell and I hope I'm wrong. We will see.

The best thing about base is that all your concerns are valid- nobody will ever be able to stop you, or anyone else, from doing something stupid.
