hanwags (or any ankle supporting boots) plain rock!!! I have used them ever since i almost broke my ankle/leg on a turbine jump and i love them. Lightweight, flexible, and totally worth the money!!!

Re: [againsthumanity] Advice on Hanwag Boots
Ya ive been reading up on them all over the forum but most of the models everyone mentions are no longer available.
i dont know much about boots so i cant really identify the "hooks" everyone mentions as possible snag points
it looks like the first link has hooks for the laces and the second one doesnt. can anyone confirm that for me?
Shortcut
Re: [miatoker] Advice on Hanwag Boots
if they are paragliding boots or the hanwags people are talking about they dont have hooks at the top two or three lace points like most hiking boots
pgshop.com has both hanwags models talked about as well as the kaylands

Re: [miatoker] Advice on Hanwag Boots
i have the orange ones, just bought them a few months ago and they have no hooks.

Re: [miatoker] Advice on Hanwag Boots
i got a pair of hanwag yukons, they are damn solid built. a buddy of mine even wore his, during SOF assessment and training and the boots still look alright (no sewing was ripped apart and the sole was good too).

the downsides are, that if you walk for instance through deep snow for a few hours and you haven`t applied that sealing wax you get quite wet feet after some time, even if you do, it happens sooner or later, and as mine have hooks, (for the laces) use gaffa tape

Boot Advice
Any boot is better than sneakers!!!!!!!

I did 180 semi-safe BASE jumps with
a pair of Hi-Tech combat boots from
the local Army-Nacy store for $80ish.

After breaking a bone in my foot on
an urban jump landing on a sloped
road to make my wife feel better I
bought the $350 Han Wags.

They are awesome, no doubt, but
really guys, any boot with design
impact and ankle support is way
better than fucking Keds.

Hanwags = overkill

Re: [BASEMenace2] Advice on Hanwag Boots
To each his own, but if I had been wearing my Crispi's instead of just heavy leather Redwings when I slammed feet first into talus under a spinning canopy, I suspect my feet wouldn't still be hurting three years later.

The one part of our body we know will make contact with the ground on EVERY jump is our feet. If you are going to go all out on protective gear, that's the place to do it.

But, YMMV.

Re: [avenfoto] Advice on Hanwag Boots
My hanwags have been awesome on 5 hour hikes and in rocky landing areas, I agree that they are overkill for normal landing areas.

although if I had a pair on when I jumped that B over a year ago I might not have got this stupid twisted ankle Crazy

Re: [miatoker] Advice on Hanwag Boots
I've used Hanwag Superfly GTX for about ten years and they have saved my feet and ankle a few times. Especially nice on those high altitude, shifty wind, sorta tight landings. They are pricey, but top of the line and last a very long time. The smaller sizes for women are hard to find, I finally ordered my last pair from a store in Germany. Any girls out there need info PM me.

Re: [dan_inagap] Advice on Hanwag Boots
some people swear by the crispis, and they are supposed to have a better fit for wide feet - i am probably ordering some instead of hanwags.

Re: [kcollier] Advice on Hanwag Boots

I am on my second pair. I have probably put about a thousand jumps on them, between the two pairs. They fit my feet better than the Hanwags, and the removable ankle support can be nice for some hiking/scrambling.

I went with them over the Hanwags because of fit. In terms of function, I'm not sure there is much difference at all.

I'll definitly get a pair of the crispi's next. I need to hike holes in my hanwags first though.

How does the materials the Crispis are made from fair against Hanwags in terms of quality and durability?

I'd say it's about the same, but that's just from looking at Hanwags. I've never owned Hanwags, so all I know is from seeing other people's boots.

The Crispis are very well built. Mine have stood up to a lot of abuse.

Re: [TomAiello] Advice on Hanwag Boots
The only problem I have with my Hanwags is when hiking in very rocky terrain the stitching on the side can come loose or tear, The blue ones have protection in this area. they are also a bit pricey.

But other than that I give em two thumbs up Wink

Anyone have experience with these boots? Compared to hanwags, how are they for ankle support, comfort, durability, etc?

Just curious.
