hard housing question
does anyone know what the INSIDE of a cutaway cable hard housing system is made of? im wondering what material the yellow cutaway cord is touching inside that hard housing. is it some type of slippery rubber?

i guess im referring to the hard housing used on a skyrig, as my BASE rig has soft housing.

Re: [TransientCW] hard housing question
I would think it would look pretty similar to the outside.

Re: [TransientCW] hard housing question
I would think that the yellow cable is going to see some abrasion and in less than 100 jumps become shot and all of the sudden break on opening disconnecting the risers resulting in a fatality.

It's better that you get the risers sewn into your skin with a set up like this:

im trying to build a cutaway for my gopro, without having to fabricate a bulky box as outer housing.

The hard housing on a SKY rig is made of
hollow metal, so the inside is, ummm, air.

Bob Holler (RIP) gave me a cutaway for my
camera helmet, which consisted of not much
more than a cotter pin and some 550 cord
knotted into a monkey fist.

I'm thinking about getting this setup, too. Mostly for the climbing claws, though (if i remember correctly) because that's a feature I could really use.

It's stripwound metal hose. Because of the way the machine "folds" the metal during production, there really isnt much abrading. Here is a link with an image to show how it's constructed:

There are some specialty hosings as well, that have a teflon interior coating. Though, I think you're over-engineering a camera cutaway. UPT is running their microline reserve ripcords through a standard housing, and it doesnt seem to be severing them...

Re: [Slurp56] hard housing question
interesting website.
you are right as well, i am overthinking this shit. i ended up getting some styrene tubing from a hobby/train enthusiast store, PERFECT size to fit yellow cutaway cable through. i just need to work out a possible kink of the gopro rotating forward or aft under pressure like an opening, but it should be good.
