Edit: took the advice I was given and posted on bj.com. After 400 views if someone can get a hold of the seller it will be done and if not I was able to find out that it's possible to get my money back.

I figure that the seller is a good guy and something just went sideways. No need to keep a post with details that reference the seller.

If anything is to be learned, it's like others posted below, use escrow service or paypal.

Dude, i have not seen Josh in over 3 months and im not even in Cincinnati to do so. I live in Georgia now.

So don't sit there and say you reached out to another member of the crew and got no reply, its nothing to do with me and i tried to call him but got no reply. Don't throw me in the pot like im his fucking mother and obliged to do something.

Cancel the check, if it's not already cashed.

This is why I don't like doing this online shit. I can see where my original post could have been read wrong and I've edited it.

It was a cashiers check sent directly from my bank. I'm told I can't cancel.

I hope you can work this out. In the future:
1. iNSIST on using Pay-Pal.
2. Make sure the invoice is for Merchandise AND NOT Service (This is very important).
3. Make sure the invoice states "Airworthy Parachute Equipment." and what you are buying ie. container, canopy, PC's, etc.
4. COVER YOUR ASS AS MUCH AS POSSIBLE.

If the order is not shipped, the gear shows up not as described, or any other issues, you will have a better and easier chance of getting your money back through Pay-Pal since they offer buyer protection. I won't buy used gear any other way, unless I can buy it in person. I do lots of business online, and I do 100% of my business in a manner that protects me from the 5% that are scammers/hustlers. I'm not saying your seller is a scammer, maybe he got hurt jumping. But you have little recourse this way. Buying stuff online is a lot like jumping, prepare yourself for things that can go "sideways," and you will have a better chance of not getting hurt or ripped off. Good Luck to you.

I don't think this is a rip off. Like I said, I kind of know the guy and he seems standup. I'm hoping he did not hurt himself.

After an hour on the phone with my bank I did get to the correct department. All I could find out from my them is that the cashiers check was not cashed. I'm told that if it's not cashed by friday that they can then place a stop payment.

After this experience I will be using paypal and making sure I have a tracking number out of the gate.

I'll keep trying to get a hold of the seller and hopefully this will all get worked out.

Use a third party to manage the deal. I do it as the 3rd party all the time for sykjumping stuff.

wait....so your original thread beginning post was the conclusion you jumped to before you checked up on the check and if the funds were withdrawn?

The funds were "withdrawn" as soon as the cashiers check was sent. I was told by people in the branch and other departments within the bank that there was no "claw back"...it was only today that I was able to reach someone in the wire resolution department who informed me that they did not see the check cashed yet and contrary to what I had been told previously it was possible to get the funds back.

To clarify. I've not drawn a conclusion. As mentioned previously. I'm familiar with the person in question and I'm not trying to cast aspersions. The simple fact of the matter is that I was told the rig was sent UPS and that it would arrive last Wed. I sent my check....Communication stopped over a week ago.

I was told that since it's a small community my best option was to post here in hopes that someone who knows the seller can reach out to them. I'm in the dark and just looking for some communication. I know now that it's possible to get the funds back, but I would much rather know that the sellers OK, had some issues and we are back on track.

i know he's on facebook... anyone talked to him lately? hate to think he went in somewhere undiscovered.

I saw him on Saturday, at Safety Day, with the rest of our DZ, where he works, and Patrick knows this.

However, despite being told numerous times since his AFF, Patrick likes to take things online instead of going through real life channels.

If you would have reached out the the crew, or someone at the DZ, you would have had better luck, but you came online instead. As it stand I dont know what the situation is and dont care to get involved since you've gone about it all wrong.

Just something to consider. You seem to constantly ignore advice from others. When you get this base rig I suggest you stop doing that. And you are right, base is a very small community.

Points taken. However, in this instance going online was the advice I was given. It was bad advice. Hindsight being 20/20 there were more options that could have been exhausted.

Hopefully at some point some other noob can read this thread and not repeat some of the same mistakes. Going online is a good way to fuck yourself.

I don't think so. You can get some really nice deals online as long as you protect yourself. This includes detailing the transaction on paypal and having your gear inspected by a certified rigger with BASE experience. I'm not sure what everyone's beef is.
