4 point W-W vs 3 point V?
Just curious. The rigger's handbook says the stitch pattern for the MLW must be 4 point W-W(and almost every skydiving container has it)
And at the same time, some base containers(apex DP,TL,DPw...)
have a 3 point V-V pattern. Why? Just a little counter-intuitive for me.

Both upper and lower junctions?

The chest strap is almost always a 3 point. Some lowers are 3 point since the laterals wrap the MLW. The uppers are generally 4 regardless.

Strengthwise, the 3 will hold just fine.

The riggers hand book is a collection of one mans oppions. Don't get me wrong, there's a lot of good infomation there but it's not a ballanced view point.

The question is about ten times more complicated then what your seeing. Sky diving gear has been made in a number of diffrent ways, with and with out a confluence wrap, 3 and 4 points, with and with out a U, etc. How many stitches per inch, how long a pattern, how does the geometry load, etc? Base gear is often simpler do to the fact that it is generaly loaded from under the harnes is shear. The harness is generaly continuous. Basically the whole issue is a lot simpler with out the reserve risers. Next time your at the drop zone go around and look closely at diffrent rigs. By the way there are skydiveing rigs with boxed three points with topside reserve risers.

Oh, I thought the book was mostly must-follow rules. I guess I'll have a different opinion about it now. Thanks for clearing that up. Looks like every sport that involves a parachute is supported exclusively by opinions.

And I have yet to see a rig that has a confluence wrap on the lower MLW junctionSmile
