Thoughts on current events and US National Parks

If certain things go the way certain people want, or more specifically if certain things keep going the way nobody but a few of us want, we could THEORETICALLY have a field day in a few playgrounds that myself and some of my friends really like playing in.

I'm already on it.

In the very unlikely chance that the feds are told to stay home, we need to be careful and figure out what short term governing would be in place over federal land. as well as be sure that we do not make it worse in the future. I see this like looting during a riot. Not opposed to it in any way. Tongue

Lets go for it all the time, do your best to not get caught. Support each other when we are. No organization, no leaders. Working within the system aka the "machine" is a sham and only protects the entrenched power...

flame away, haha....

Re: [Calvin19] Thoughts on current events and US National Parks
I read that they will gate up the National Parks and the broke fed will spend $3.5 billion on robots specifically designed to stop BASE jumpers just for this federal shutdown time period. The robots are also designed to allow climbers and American citizens with firearms to access the park, permit free as that does not pose a danger to anybody at all... ever. The robots will be activated by specially designed satellites, again just for catching BASE jumpers in NP's, at a cost of $50 million for the satellite and $5 million for the ride up. The shuttle launch yesterday has delivered it to orbit.

Assuming STS does not have a separate stage for HEO we should have a window for 40 min every hour.

you know something tells me it wouldnt be quite that easy.

how many park rangers in our NPS systems only bust jumpers because they "have to" because its their "job"?

and how many do it because they eat, shit, live, and breathe the park ranger creed........

i work in a branch of the military where people sometimes take their jobs beyond serious, because it is all that they are capable of, its an ego thing, and because they wouldnt be able to do jack shit anywhere else in this world.

just because rangers would be told by the feds to stay off duty during these times, doesnt necessarily mean that they will actually go home. they might stick around for extracurricular activities, so be careful.............

i like what your saying, but whats too good to be true in this world always is.
just my opinion

they can't arrest fifty or a couple hundred of us could they? If we arrive in mass they will be overwhelmed and we will duct tape the ate up rangers to a sequoia.... just jesting, I wanna keep my duct tape for my End of the United States survival kit...

Re: [TransientCW] Thoughts on current events and US National Parks
A question to consider is, if they are "off duty", which I would imagine would be the case if they aren't being paid. Would they be within legal limits in arresting anyone?
Shortcut
Re: [Rauk] Thoughts on current events and US National Parks
Can an off duty police officer make an arrest or pull somebody over? Or is it a different scenario?

Not all but, some park rangers are deputized. Meaning they have law enforcement "priveledges". I do believe an off duty cop can still arrest someone. . .

Dig the sig by the way!

From my knowledge, yes. I know for sure an off duty police officer can arrest someone, but I don't know about park rangers.

I would assume so, as every citizen has the right to make a citizen's arrest.

It would be ILLEGAL for them to go to work, or do any work at all. "Stay at home" would be the "orders".

I know a few people that work for the NPS. (not rangers) (It's nice to keep the back channels open, you know, to fend off disasterWink)
I actually got the idea to bring it here from this contact. He is Pro-BASE jumper, I have recieved good info from him in the past. He told me that if shit goes down, then we should go for it. Rangers should be at home, and if they live in the park they have to sit and watch.

BUT the GOP bitches are gonna try and stop it. So, probably not going to happen.

Re: [cheekybastard] Thoughts on current events and US National Parks
That is correct. There are lots of different "Park Ranger" jobs, ranging from Climbing Rangers to volunteer Trail Rangers, but Law Enforcement Rangers are fully commissioned law enforcement rangers and have the ability to detain, arrest, and call for assistance at any time, on or off duty. In fact, as part of their commission, they took an oath to "own it if they see it" so to speak. It's their discretion, as it always is, but I would think that they might still be just as ridiculous during this whole ordeal.

C-ya soon!

Edit: And Law Enforcement Rangers have federal jurisdiction I believe. I think that means they can do more than just detain you and wait for local barney's to show up if they pursue you out of the NP.

Re: [OuttaBounZ] Thoughts on current events and US National Parks
Law Enforcement Rangers (State Park, National Park, BLM, etc) do indeed have jurisdiction outside of their parks even if the "infraction" did not originate in a park at all. On that note, a state or county LEO can also arrest you in a park.. Cops are cops.
Shortcut
Re: [cloudtramp] Thoughts on current events and US National Parks
I heard that cops that are outside of their jurisdiction can detain someone, but cannot transport without an officer of that jurisdiction present. Maybe thats horseshit, but I'd thought I'd bring it up and see if anybody else knows.

Re: [Calvin19] Thoughts on current events and US National Parks
Sorry guys, today the insider told me that the NPS may shut down some parks, but rangers are going to be considered "necessary". they will be working these days if it shuts down. Possibly at light staff however. He said they got nervous about security and did not want anyone to take advantage of the down time. They got a clue from some internet forum.

Hey BJ.com, we need a private BASE jumper only forum on this site like on Blinc. But, you know, maybe this one people will actually post on...

Re: [Couloirman] Thoughts on current events and US National Parks
wouldn't they just close the park to entry?

and getting busted with 50 other jumpers... wouldn't that be a conspiracy charge?
Shortcut
Re: [460] Thoughts on current events and US National Parks
only if they could prove you KNEW about it, TALKED about it or PLANNED it. I already know I cant go, and the park will be SO buried in deep pow pow access will be more challening than dodging rangers.
Shortcut
Re: [nicrussell] Thoughts on current events and US National Parks
You mean by introducing as evidence all the posts on an internet forum? I think it would be pretty easy to get charges to stick. Despite all the shithouse lawyer talk jumpers love to throw around, I don't know of anyone who's actually beat the NPS in court. I know a few have tried, and got pretty far, but still lost.

"Limited personnel needed to protect life and property on public lands, such as law enforcement, emergency services and firefighting personnel, will be exempted from furlough."

Re: [Calvin19] Thoughts on current events and US National Parks
directly from Wall Street Journal :

"The National Park Service would furlough 17,000 park service employees, retaining up to 3,000 officials, most of whom are law enforcement. They will have people to protect national treasures, like the Liberty Bell in Philadelphia, for example. But they will also ask roughly 15,000 “concession employees,” such as those who run white-water rafting trips, to leave."
