BASE Beginners

Hello everyone

I've been lurking for quite some time, so I think i'll finally post an introduction about myself. I'm a pretty adventurous person and have done quite a bit in my time from travelling the globe, to flying, to preparing for my cross country bicycle tour later this year. Before I'm 32(i'm 27 now), I'd like to hike the entirety of the AT.

In any case, my skydiving skills are almost non-existant. I have 3 tandems and one aff that I fucked up on, causing an injury that forced me to give up jumping for a little while a couple years ago. It was my fault and I thought about it quite a bit when I couldn't jump for several months due to that injury.

Since then, I took the risk to start two businesses. The first one failed miserably, almost wiping my finances out. My second one is currently doing well. Though it took me two years of eating like a poor broke college student again, working 90 hrs/wk and saving every penny I earned while my business bank account tempts me to spend money I don't have. Soon I'll have enough money to take my cessna 140 out of the hangar again after two years and start flying. I'm also going to start from the beginning with with AFF soon.

About base? Well, I've been obsessed with reading/taking in every bit of knowledge I can find for the past several years since I went to bridge day 09. I'm in no hurry for anything, trust me. All i've been thinking about for the past several years has been flying again and getting my skydiving A license. Base? I don't know. Maybe, but I'll cross that path when its time.

Re: [Aperion] Hello everyone
If you want to hike the AT, go southbound, it's way kewler.

Better yet, hike the PCT or GDT instead.

Either way, get ready for FAT FEET.

and.. .what else do you want to know?

I haven't decided if I want to go southbound or northbound yet. we'll see. I was thinking about traveling down to Georgia first, but Maine is a little closer to home, though not by much.

Re: [MBA-PATTO] Hello everyone
I know what you mean Patto,

I prescribe to a simple theory. Say you want to learn about cars, go to a car forum. But, if you want to learn about Ferrari's then you go to the Ferrari forum. You go to the people who know the most about Ferrari's, not just cars in general. Base is a subset of skydiving, though it does have it's own very unique aspects. I may not be ready yet, but I do have my questions. I will be ready when I'm ready and not a moment sooner. Besides, i'm already on dropzone. Cool

Most choose to go northbound because it generally works out a lot better with weather, you miss the spring black fly season in New England, and its a more climatic end with the panoramic views at the top of Mt Katahdin as opposed to the wooded summit of Mt Springer. Why do you recommend going southbound?
