In reply to:
A man is facing a long list of charges, after trying to base jump off a landmark bridge in Wyoming County.

Emergency responders and state police were called to Nicholson around 10:00 a.m. Sunday.

Troopers say John Snurkowski of Millville jumped off the T*n*h*n*o*k Viaduct with a parachute.

Snurkowski's chute got tangled in the tops of some trees and he had to be rescued.

He was not injured.

State police say Snurkowski will be cited for disorderly conduct and trespassing on Canadian Pacific Railroad property in Wyoming County.

Wikipedia lists the bridge as 240 feet (73 m).

Sucks for Snurkowski, Sorry Frown

Total Side Note:

Myself and Blitkreig have both successfully
self-rescued from tree landings... me with
small balls and no ability to cutway Unsure

Not sure what is worse, dealing with the
Legal Industry or the Healthcare Industry?

Nowadays I carry rope, a hand saw, med kit,
and the attitude that unless it is life or death
I am going to take care of myself and the
buddies with me on the load.

Again, just a tangent random comment...
I know nothing about this exact incident,
just glad no one died or got paralyzed.

He should have called a tree surgeon instead of 911. I'm sure they would have gladly taken his money and kept quiet about it.

My buddy had to climb out of his harness once after an off heading into a pretty big tree. He was suspended by his leg straps & still a good 8ft up. When he let go, the branch slingshotted his rig to an unreachable part of the tree. We had to leave it that night & come back & get it the next day.

As for Spurkowski, he must have been really fricken high up in the tree to request police assistance vs trying to get down. I wonder if he was alone or not...

Also, the police weren't requested. People saw him hanging up in a big tree and the whole town showed up apparently. (again, not first hand knowledge, just what was reported on Blinc)
