Cheeky, what do you do for money? You seem to be jumping all over the uber-obscure areas, (Bosnia/Croatia/Ireland?). If you find out there's a sweet 300' freestander in Syria, are you gonna fly there next? Not bashing ya', just curious.

Dear Spiderbaby, please restrain yourself from calling certain aereas in the world as "uber - obscure". If you did not know, these areas (talking about Croatia/Bosnia now, I hope that yu have heard about Ireland) have a history dating back to ancient Greeks and Roman Empire times.

If you did not know, Phoenix - Fly is also coming from those "uber-obscure" area, i.e. Croatia. Even more, the latest PF movie "The Need 4 Speed: The Art of Flight" was for the most part filmed in those areas.

So be kind and have enough decency to respect at least those people that live there and keep your opinion to yourself.

I have an uber-stash of 2 euro coins that gets me around. I am actually hitchhiking with a friend now throughout Europe... heading down to Egypt. So, if you have any info on a 300 foot freestander in Syria, I would definitely hit it up on my way!

Speaking of Croatia, I am really close to a bridge in the southern rim near Montenegro if anyone has any info on it.

Cheers.

I doubt he meant any insult by it. There are focal points in the BASE world, e.g., Norway, Italy, and Yosemite and Perrine in the U.S.. Other areas could rightfully be considered to be "off the beaten" path from a BASE perspective and therefore considered obscure. That is not a commentary on their culture or history--it is more an indication that those locations rarely come to mind when thinking about BASE jumping.

Seconded, obscure, exotic, "off the beaten path" = all relative terms. what's exotic to one, is normal to another.

On another note, I thought cheeky-bastard's trollish nature was already confirmed. am I wrong?
180 posts in 6 months sure is a lot for a hitchhiking base jumper on his/her way to Egypt. And I've never heard of a Dagger 288 Crazy

I love the way "places" like Italy and Norway are considered as "points" similar to Perrine and Yosemite. :D Just for your information, Norway is a country which has an area of 385252 square kilometers whereas Italy is a bit smaller (only 301338 square km's). Translated into "american understanding", they both are actually quite big countries in a place called Europe and while they both have couple of well known BASE jumping locations they both offer areas and jumps that definitely can be considered "off the beaten track". :)

Troll no. Lying asshole: yes.

But alas, I have changed my ways. And if you would like to see the hitchhiking photo gallery when we are done, I'd gladly show you it. We take a picture with every driver to document it.

Also, who hasn't heard of the Dagger? There was a post on it not too long ago.

Actually, I worked at a car dealership until I finished college, and am using the little money I saved to travel. I generally spend less than 5 euro a day, so my few hundred euro goes a long way.

Don't mind the Hankster, Drazen. As vee say in Amrika, consider the source:

1. He's a BASE JUMPER.
2. He's a CLIMBER.
3. He's an AMERICAN (most of whom can't even name the states in their own country, much less know where the heck Croatia is -- or that Phoenix-fly comes from there instead of that city in Arizona near Eloy.
4. When the Hankster disses you and calls it a "joke," that means he LIKES you.

Seriously, though, the Hankster is a great guy as long as he's sleeping and you'll never find a better friend as long as you're paying for everything and you could trust him in any situation with your wife, girlfriend, sister or daughter as long as they are all dead.

Used car salesman! Aaaaahhhh, it all starts to add up. No, really, don't mind me. I'm just bored, sitting around recovering from a surgery. Strangely, my post-to-jump ratio has taken a turn for the worst. Don't worry. A few more days, and I should be good to go (and actually jumping) so I won't have much to say on here..... Pics would be good, give yourself some credibility and throw some up! (of the hitchhiking/base, not the turning of tricks and selling of used cars)

Honestly, if it was possible to become a citizen, I'd move my family to Switzerland. Not just for BASE--it's got a ton of advantages.

But in keeping with the thread: "oh yeah, well, we're the Americans, and we're in charge, and if you don't like it we'll nuke you!" Tongue

Seems to be quite a dichotomy going on with Swiss culture. Very BASE friendly, but culturally a bunch of big time rules followers. Contrast that with the US where most of us have a "fuck the rules" attitude but our country is much less BASE friendly.

Most of the rules in Switzerland seem reasonable but some of them are kind of funky. I've heard that some apartment leases restrict the hours that men can piss while standing up because the noise might irritate their neighbors.

And no, I'm not kidding about that.

All considered, though, I think Switzerland is a beautiful place with some great people.

So yes, Tom, let's nuke the fuckers! LOL

I didn't ask. Maybe one of our Swiss friends can answer that.Laugh

Edited to add:
Has anyone ever heard a Swiss person fart? I don't think they have that in their DNA. Not sure that they ever take a dump either--that would be too messy.

So I guess disturbing the neighbors at all hours of the night with intrusive bass heavy gangsta rap is not that common in Switzerland?

Walt, you could throw a full beer can at their window to quiet them down.

I'm pretty sure that wouldn't happen. If it did, the police would be called and the person playing the rap would be labeled for life as mentally defective.

As for the beer can, I was drunk when I did that so it didn't really count. LOL

and yeah we never take a dump and as for the regulation thing, we also never go for a piss. we don't even have toilets here (only for the tourists..) so i'm not too sure about this rule... Wink
