I'd appreciate any feedback on a Dagger 266. There is one review on this site but I'm not sure of experience level of the reviewer, and the canopy he jumps is significantly smaller. Thanks in advance.
I as well didn't put very many jumps on it (5-6) so take this for what it's worth, but I also found quite slow pressurization. So much so it lead me to upgrade canopies ASAP. After experiencing this, I asked some more experienced jumpers about it, and they confirmed it had a reputation for slow pressurization. Oh, and mine was a 288.
You can compare the pressurisation and flight characteristics of a 266 Dagger to the ones of vented Trolls in low'ish environment on the clip from our last expedition to Finnish big wall :
First 2 jumps (video from the side) are vented Trolls (265 & 205). Third jump (video from bottom) is 266 Dagger and fourth jump (video from bottom) is 285 vented Troll. The cliff is 38m high.
I have a Dagger 266 and a Dagger 313 in service for first jump courses. They tend to inflate poorly slider down, have strong flare, and fly fairly fast in full flight, but are hard to shut down and sink.
I did about my first 200 jumps on a Dagger277. It treated me very well (keep in mind back when I started vents were a new thing that not all canopies/companies had as an option). I jumped anywhere from 240' (freefall) on one occasion up to 900' as the tallest (or the royal gorge, whatever is taller). I look back at some of the jumps I did with it and I honestly don't think I would repeat a lot of them with the same canopy (even a new dagger) just due mainly to the lack of vents. I now have a couple of rockdragons (277 + 303) and the openings are significantly better and faster on the RD's. I also recently (about a year ago) bought a Dagger 266 from a friend and have been using it for a slider up/bridge rig pretty much exclusively. If it's a slider down canopy you are looknig for, admittedly there are better choices out there. JMHO.
Thanks everyone for the info. There is one for sale in NZ in a Perigee Velcro container. Price around $800 US. The initial use would be SD off a 350ish E. Currently using a Raven 3 but I'm not prepared to use it at this site. Would love to have the latest & greatest but not possible in this current economic climate.
Ouch. That's pretty much the best and worst s/d pressurization on the market today. Quite a comparison.
You should see my Dagger 313...with all that extra fabric the pressurization is noticeably worse than your video.
FWIW, I think the difference in pressurization becomes much more pronounced on the larger sizes. The very small (200 and smaller) canopies the differences are a lot less noticeable.
