Falling down an A
So a few of us were talking today on the way to a jump about what would happen if you were to fall while climbing an inside climb A. It started off with the idea that an inside climb is somewhat of a false sense of security. Obviously it's a lot easier to take breaks, especially if there are internal platforms, but while you're actually climbing the ladder, we concluded that the situation was just as grim if you fall on the inside climb, as you'd be hitting all the jagged steel on the way down, but not able to grab on to any of it. If you fall on an outside climb, once you get above a certain altitude, you'd have some hope of salvation by throwing your pilot chute. Then we got to thinking, if you happened to fall on an inside climb, and you were not able to grab on to anything before you (quickly) accelerated past the point of no return, what would happen if you threw your pilot chute? I would think that in theory, the canopy should extract and begin to open, and would then hopefully snag on something within the tower and arrest your fall. Can anyone comment with actual accounts, or more insight? Thanks all. Sean LR
