Light at the end of the tunnel or an incredibly close call?

Re: [GreenMachine] Near Death Experience?
When I was young i used to rock climb. I had been doing it for years, and I became a little too comfortable. I was standing on top of a cliff setting up the anchor when a gust of wind pushed me toward the edge. I had an 'oh shit i'm gonna die' moment, did some arm waving and finally caught my balance. 100 ft precipice terminated by jagged rocks. That was enough for me.

Almost drowned when I was 5 years old in a pool. Saw the big kids doing it, and thought it would be no thing. Pulled out by a mom standing near by.

Got hit in the head with the edge of a kayak paddle of my friend sitting behind me in a tandem kayak when a wave crashed over us and capsized the kayak. nearly passed out. had to be dragged back to shore. my face/head were covered in blood. took 8 staples to the dome.

It's funny, i used to make my own parachutes out of bedsheets and plastic bags too! I used to jump off of 10-12 stairs with the homemade chute and land in a pile of my mom's sofa cushions. Good times! Looking back on my childhood it's no wonder I'm addicted to adrenaline. It convinces that I'm actually parachuting because it's fun rather than to show off.

Back To Death...

I asked about the near death experience
because this morning I was watching my
new DVD: 20 seconds of joy

And in the film it is explains that Jen and
her family had a real nasty car accident.

I too have had a few brushes with death:
drowning, gun shot, car accident, motorcycle
accident, etc. and after the last one decided
fuck it, life is short, I am gonna die, but in
the mean time I will live fully.

Just curious how many of you shared this
same kind of acceptance after experience.

Re: [hjumper33] Near Death Experience?
never been close to death. however at 14, i went bouldering/climbing for the first time in hiking boots, climbed up about 6 feet and tried to climb something that started to get insanely overhung, out of pure idiocy. fell flat, belly to earth boxman, straight onto solid rock with the bottom of my chin taking the whole impact. stood up, spit out a pint of blood and a total of 8 completely shattered teeth, both jawbones almost went through my ear canals, and my chin was completely split open.

2 years of full dental reconstructive surgery conquered all fear i have of the dentist nowadays, you name the procedure, ive been through it.

Re: [GreenMachine] Near Death Experience?
Agreed. Life and death are nothing but the 2 sides of the same coin. Whoever is living fully is not gonna be scared of death anymore..

Life is a game cause is unpredictable...and the beauty of any game resides in its unpredictability..

But the point is to live without any regrets whatever you like most! Sooner or later, one way or another you are gonna die anyway!

Sth. else: all base jumpers, more or less, consciously or subconsciously have some kind of death wish...Kind of kamikaze.cause they are literally playing with their own death on each and every jump..
Just my 2 cents..

Re: [Oink] What a fucked up life.
Okay, here is something I can respond to.

Age 8- Teen age psycho pushed me in front of a car, all 4 wheels locked up, it stopped an inch from my head. I beat the shit out of him with my skateboard while his friends (and the driver) watched.

Age 9- Crashed that damn bike after brake pads melted.

Age 10- Home made parachute from trash bags and red suspenders, woke up with the family dog standing guard. Good dog. German Shepard.

Age 12- Emergecy room, social services department interviews me to see if I have been abused. No, I just made some bad decisions.

Age 14- Put a paper clip in the electric socket during Texas History, tripped the circuit breakers for the school. There were sparks the size of oranges coming out of the wall.

Age 15- Outside ski pops off, went off a cliff that turned out to be only 12 feet. The faceplant impact was rough though.

Age 19- Mugger tries to rob me. Still have his sunglasses...

Age 21- Got Ducati 916 airborne off a hill because of unfortunate bump in the pavement. Flew about 120 feet at 90 mph. Ever watch ski jumping on TV?

Age 22- Electrocuted by motorcycle battery(home repair), forgot my name for a few hours. Intensely painful.

Age 23- Car accident, 60 mph, experienced 75G's. The car caught on fire. I was still standing in the median, yelling at that stupid bitch when the ambulance showed up.

Age 23- Broken leg from MMA, went into shock, the ER doc said, "I would be screaming right now if that happened to me." I could have had an embolism or gangrene. I waited 3 days to see a doctor. I hate going to the doctor.

Age 24- Stray bullet, large caliber rifle round that I still have.

Age 27- Attempted home invasion, butcher knife saved my ass.

Age 28- Broken arm from MMA, caught my hand on the cage, stopped breathing for 15 seconds while I was in shock. Ambulance ride was expensive. Those trainees don't know how to do an IV.

Age 28- Knife fight outside the liquor store.

Age 30- My parents called on my birthday. They never thought I would make it this long.

Be safe everyone,
Tyler

How did you get electrocuted by a motorcycle battery? they are only 12 volts. one can touch both terminals of a car battery and be just fine.

Re: [ecolisurprise] What a fucked up life.
I was wondering about that, as well as the whole experiencing 75Gs - that means you came to a sudden stop from the claimed 60mph in .038 seconds (38 thousands of a second)

Re: [vid666] What a fucked up life.
The figure of 75 G's is a best guess based on Google research plus tire marks at the scene. Feet and legs had more abrupt deceleration than head and chest because of the airbag. I went over a hill with a blind curve and a car was stopped in the middle of the road in front of me. I swerved into the median and the car went into the median in front of me and stopped again. Women drivers... Airbags are suprisingly hot. They are inflated by explosive charge and the talc dust they are packed in will make you sneeze non stop for a good 10 minutes afterward.

As far as the motorcycle battery, I'm not sure what happened. The lighting in the garage was not that great, that and a metal screwdriver are what got me.

Safe jumps everyone,
Tyler

Friends of Adam Potter watched in horror as the Scottish mountain climber lost his footing on a near vertical cliff. Miraculously, Potter only sustained minor injuries. TODAY’s Natalie Morales has more details.

http://newslite.tv/...000ft-gets-up-a.html

It's not too often you can refer to someone who fell 1,000ft down a mountain as 'lucky' -- but Adam Potter certainly is.

The 36-year-old had been out climbing on Sgurr Choinnich Mor, five miles east of Ben Nevis, this weekend, when he lost his footing and suffered a potentially perilous plunge.

Potter fell some 1,000ft down the 3,589ft Scottish slope, causing mountain rescue teams to fear that he could have been killed.

But when a nearby Royal Navy Sea King helicopter went to look for him, they could only see another standing near to where the accident had happened, or so they thought.

It was actually Potter, who had miraculously only suffered cuts and bruises and was stood up looking at a map, probably trying to plot the route he had fallen down.

A paramedic was then winched down to check that it was really him and ensure he was okay before taking him back on the helicopter and to Southern General Hospital in Glasgow.

Speaking after the accident Potter said: "I slipped on deep ice and snow, so it meant I gained speed pretty quick. Then I went over some cliff edges so I was just falling through the air."
