Object obsticals
Went to check out an A today, its tall enough, the launch is good, the landing area. Trees, Powerlines, & the only safe options are niehborhood backyards, & as I was driving around it I was chased for at least a mile by a dog. This place is in the country. Has anyone ever encountered a mean dog upon landing? It seems like every dog for six miles knows someone made a BASE Jump everytime I jump one of the towers around here. Should I stuff a porterhouse down my shorts to throw to him as bait when I land, I hope I am not more appetizing than the porterhouse....

I will probably leave this one for someone else as there are other places around here alot less risky, but I thought I would share my story with you all, cause I thought it was quite humorous at the time.Smile

Re: [DAVE858] Object obsticals
I've never been chased, but at our local A the closest house has a dog that barks it's head off every time we walk by. It's house is the only one around, so there's not that many people it could notify, but it is pretty aggravating.

Re: Object obsticals
Had a dog follow me for about 15 mins down the path to an A.. I tried to walk through the woods to get rid of it, I figured its owner would be following. No luck, the thing followed me right to the fence at the base of the A. Waited for me to gear up, climb up and found the winds down the wire at opening.. climbed back down and it was sitting right at the fence still... It then proceeded to follow me all the way back to my car. Never did see the owner..the dog was friendly but it got annoying after a while..

Man's Best Friend
I once landed in a field after opening a freestander
and as I am stowing my gear in my stash bag here
comes a ghetto pit bull running & barking straight
at me... I am in the middle of a cow field and this
thought runs through my mind: "Are you fucking
kidding me? I survive opening a new tower solo
and now I am going to the ER with dog wounds?!"

So I stand there, looking medium tough in my protec,
boots, knee pads, and period cargo pants starring
back at the dog, it runs and barks, I stare and try to
look tough, which is a bit of challenge for us gingers...

Finally the dog gets close... on a whim I drop from my
stance to a knee position and try the "come here boy"
tone, dog runs up, lays on it back, and let me pet it.

I am now friends with the dog that has come to be
called "BASE Dog" and its owner called "Herron"
who might be on herion but is very BASE friendly Wink
