Are You A "Gamer"?
Well I just finished sitting through 4 hours of tedious
material about how to engage the students of the Y
Generation with technology in the classroom because
they are "digital natives" and grew up multi-tasking so
they need things to be quick, entertaining, and have
immediate feedback.

Yeah, and we wonder why America is totally screwed Unsure

Anyways, during those 240+ minutes of purgatory it
was stated that
"70% of households have a GAMER"
and they are on average 34 years of age.

Of course this poll is flawed since this is a forum for
people who love parachuting, which in my head is
the exact opposite of playing a video game, but this
is the only site I frequent, hence I am asking you.

So is that statistic even close to being true? I know
the new game systems are bad ass, have lots of
cool graphics, etc. I just find it hard to believe the
number could be that high.

I answered no, but at one time I was big into video games. I see it as a phase for most.

It depends on how you define a gamer. I usually don't play a lot, and I complete like 5-10 games a year, which would probably amount to 10-15 full days of playing each year. During my teen years I used to play much more.

But... I actually end up "playing" a lot, because I'm actually a game developer, and I have to test the games I'm working on, but I don't count this towards normal enjoyable playing. As my work colleague used to joke during working hours: "you can play, but you must not enjoy it!". :-)

I play video games, yes, but i clicked "no" as well. I really only play them when im bored, and there's nothing else to do, or nothing on tv, since I work nights, the only places that are open on my nights off are wal-mart, waffle house and whataburger, I gotta do something to entertain myself. Ill pick one up during the day, if its raining and hence all my outdoor activities are a bust. Since I moved to Pensacola there isn't much surfing to be done here, so that's out as well. Frown So its pretty much my fall back.

Well think about your number there, kids these days are brought up on video games, kinda like kids back in the day were brought up on. . . well i'm not sure, wasnt around then but anyway you get the point. . . From what I've heard the average family has 2 kids, so id be willing to bet one of, if not both of them grew up playing video games, hell its just an easier way of dealing with a kid, just throw his ass in front of the tv and let him play away, not saying its the BEST way, im just saying that is how it is, people are lazy like that. Sadly 70% dosen't really surprise me at all in this day and age.
