Re: [BASE_1175] Fatality Lauterbrunnen, 30.12.2010
Unfortunetely, its true, a good one passed again.. Marko Mike was a well known skydiver and base jumper in hungary, everyone loved him, he was a real best friend and I feel honored I could know him.
That morning 8 of us went up to h-ultimate ramp, 4 tracking jumpers, 4 wingsuiters. He exited last, solo ws jump. I did not see his jump, was stashing my gear, only heard the strike. According to eye witnesses at landing (3 belgian jumpers) he got unstable right after the exit, they did not see if he hit the first positive part, so he probably did not get instable of hiting the cliff in freefall. Then he was in spin and roll for a long time, he could not fix the position, then he pulled, but too late, he striked the ledge at the 1/3d of the cliff (down at around 250m level) before canopy inflation. After the strike the canopy opened, and he flew down close to the river, landed on a tree already dead.
He had around 1500 skydives and 230 base jumps. He had min. 150 ws jumps, min. 50 in base. He jumped TS X-Bird (second suit, he started with BM s6), he already put around 50 jumps in that suit, he was quite familiar with it, he jumped it earlier in the valley and the days before his last jump. He always did nice, solid, intensive and stable exits, also from the ramp on h-ultimate. According to his last helmet cam video,(the day before he died) he started to fly away the wall before reaching the positive part under the exit, what you gotta jump over. This time he lost the camera, it was impossible to find it.
These are the facts.
I can not understand how could it happen, but it happened. We will never know if he slipped on exit (the ramp was clean and dry) or just made a bad exit and could not recover..take your consequences, and jump safe.
RIP my friend.
If anyone who knew him and want to attend the funeral pm me.
