Re: [GreenMachine] PCL Surgery
Not to bad, the doc said to start gently using it the next day, been 2 years, and it gets stiff if I walk for more than an hour at a time, but the pain and random give outs/lockups are gone.

Two ACL surgeries. With miniscus repairs each time. I have a third of my petella tendon as a replacement ACL. Two buckle tears on miniscus.

Re: [GreenMachine] PCL Surgery
Don´worry to much.

I have a stretched collateral outside ligaments and lost my two cruciate ligaments inside the knee as well as a bad meniscus in my left knee for years now.

Had a surgery which just cleared the problems with the meniscus and left everything with the ligaments.

Surgery took 30 minutes. Stayed another 90 minutes in a weak-up room and two days later I drove back home with my car.

Did work-outs and rehab for some weeks. Since then I use a brace for skiing and skydiving and can do most sports as normal.

Friends of mine got their cruciate ligaments fixed and it works fine. Either way seems to be ok.

So, good luck to you!

Re: [GreenMachine] PCL Surgery
How bad of a tear do you have? My only advice is rest and physical therapy. Therapy for injuries is long and usually a royal pain in the ass but if you want to get better and back into jumping shape its your best bet. Dont be in too big of a hurry toget back into jumping, shell be there. All it would take is one slight off heading opening and sketchy landing on a partially healed knee and youd be out for good. Good luck with it.

EDIT: response from a surgeon friend of mine. . .

"Early mobilization and rehab after virtually any knee surgery is usually the rule. It not only improves recovery speed but also minimizes the risk of DVT, which is not uncommon after orthopedic procedures. For PCL, strengthening the quad is particularly important. Hopefully the surgeon will refer him to a good PT program, those guys are very good for this type of stuff"

Good news gang, I am alive and well.

My surgeon opened up the knee and
found that the PCL was not as bad as
he originally thought, so he removed
some scar tissue left over from the
broken patella and instead repaired
my meniscus, which was damaged.

As for rehab, I already got a machine
that folds my knee and I plan to bike
my way back to jumping and sparing
condition quickly.

Side note - they gave me a nerve
block shot near the top of my femur
and gave me a device which drips a
solution for 2 or 3 days to continue
this nerve blocking, once the device
is empty I remove and discard it.

That little pain pump "ball" is magic. Right up there with penicillin as a medical advance. Any surgeon not using it in this type of surgery should have his ass kicked.

IMHO

Hi Greenmachine,

Did you have an accident or is it natural wear & tear?

I still think your green text is puerile

In the meantime Happy Xmas,

Regards

Knee Update & A Question
Well it has been about 3 weeks since surgery.
The stiches are out, all 3 wounds healed up,
walking without crutches or cane, do have a
minor limp still, been bicycling, walking, and
doing leg lifts as rehab, plus stretching/yoga.

Only negative thing so far is the numbness
just below my patella, the place where a doc
hits you with a small hammer to test your
reflexes... is this a byproduct of the pain ball
or is it likely a nerve got nicked during surgery?

On the plus side I did my first jump back today,
PCA'd a newbie from Wanda and then did a
static line into a soft, plowed field. Jumping
was cake, climbing with a knee brace sucked.

Thank you everybody for the many warm well
wishes on here, fagbook, email, and by phone!
