What to get?
Just started my AFF... up to stage 5 now... (my nuts are kainin from the student rig)... I want to start BASE jumping yesterday and have my own rig... Whats a good BASE rig/s for KL, Norway, Switzerland, Blue Mountains (Australia), Moab, etc... Im 6.4ft and 91kgs... keen to get a wingsuit asap too... so looking for an all rounder...

What sort of BASE rig should I buy/get???

Want to start with the bridge down the road from me (100m) as jump 11.

Please help! 14,000ft is just too high (im afraid of heights...)

Cheers

slow down read this site and enjoy learning to skydive, or ignore everyone have a blast but probably fuck yourself up in the near future the choice is yours.

Re: [Rich2002] What to get?
Rich is right, I chose the "fuck myself up" route and its not all it cracked up to be Crazy In fact it sucks being 22 and having the back problems of a 80 year old man.

Have fun skydiving, be patient and good things come to those who wait.

Re: [Wingit] What to get?
the choice of gear is rather immaterial.

the weakest link will be your skill level and judgment. modern gear can save your butt despite your lack of knowledge and experience. I would not count on it.

there is a thread with a few handy x-rays. have you seen it?

You should buy a skydiving rig.

Good luck with that. Don't expect too much help though.

Re: [Wingit] What to get?
Learn to skydive and get the skills, jump alot, Then learn to BASE jump. You'll find it helpful that the members of this community have your back if you follow the right path. Dont piss people off...and ease your way into the community by making friends, drinking beers, groundcrewing and skydiving. Take it slow, and BASE will always be there for you when your ready. Through experience comes lowered odds of injury or death. And with those odds the alotted space for fun and memories is higher.

Take care,
Good luck on the path you choose,
Jake

Is the bridge down the road the one where the troll family lives? Did they evict you for being so obvious?

Re: [gauleyguide] What to get?
ideally, the Technical forum is for legitimate, serious discussions. it should be a reference area with a relatively high signal to noise ratio. I'd prefer seeing well thought out questions leading to a thoughtful discussion.

that does not really describe this thread... high noise responses can't degrade the conversation.

Re: [wwarped] What to get?
There is no substance in the Post for any legitimate conversation to even start to exist.
You should probably just go along with the Flow or just delete the whole fucking Thread. You can not take the OP Post serious or give it any legitimacy at all . If you do then you are tearing-down what little bit of legitimacy accumulated that is hanging from a thread anyway.

The whole purpose for the OP Thread is for entertainment anyway. 1st Post made in the same day registered, while giving No profile, and he/she has all the correct buzz words and catch phrases in the Post & topic for Baiting & receiving SmartAss rebuttal with being Spat upon by the majority that post responses .
You need to let the entertainment Flow or just shitcan it in the beginning, Or if you believe the OP Thread is real, move it to the Beginners Forum where it has to be given polite feedback for Trolling.

The obvious answer is a raven in a velcro rig with an x-wing. BASE is scary, go handheld on the first few.

Re: [Wingit] What to get?
Buy a skydiving rig... take the slider off and presto! dual purpose rig.

Make sure you have video and someone filming from the ground... you want your first base jump on video!

Re: [Weightless] What to get?
If the OP had any brains @ all . for easy training aid, he would suck his AFF coaches down for some dirty low pulling practice, as to get in the right state of mind & practice ready for his short-lived career in BASE . Then on his Post-dive debrief after the jump ask what equipment they think he needs to get started .
Remember, on AFF nothing gets more respect faster from your Coaches, when you make there AAD Snap chasin you low . Then come back for a 2nd Thread Post & I bet you get Mucho respect here .

Re: [Wingit] What to get?
I can use a 7 cell chute when skydiving at the DZ im learning at. So i want to buy the 7 cell troll or Ultra light or??? as my main for my skydiving rig and switch it back and forth between the base container and the sky container. If i strap the PC to the hand rail of the bridge with electrical tape and do a nice clean exit there SHOULD be no chance of line twist, If i have the right chute (and pack it properly) it SHOULD open on heading with no dramas, and the landing is in the water... so as long as the chute opens (beginner or pro) I SHOULD be fine!? Then I will be jumping from 14,000ft aqain and again. I want to fly a wingsuit eventually so I HAVE to get 200 Jumps up to do so... Then I have to somehow get 20 wingsuit base jumps done in Australia before I can wingit off Kjarag... So yeah Im serious!

Cheers

Steve

Ps... Whens the beers?? Can I come watch some of ya's jump sometime?

enjoy wingsuiting in australia mate.. the last 2 who did are not with us anymore...you need to get to the dropzone and do 300 skydives and then come back to this website and learn to read the rules before coming on here and looking like a douche bag..

every 2-3 weeks this website and many others receive stupid posts by people like you that make no sense to the jumpers here who have made many years skydiving and learning the slow way to get into base jumping...you really need to sit back and take things in...Can i ask how old you are...because you come across like some young teenager who is too keen to get out and kill himself..Pm me your dropzone location in oz...

Re: [MBA-PATTO] What to get?
Whats the worst that could happen? If I do it that way, whats the difference with me doing it and the bloke thats done it 20 times before (ie there's elecy tape all over the handrail...) Im trying to get info so I can do it and survive. Im 26. Just trying to get some info. Guess im not going to get it here. Sorry for wasting your time.

My old mans bosses son is Jimmy (I guess 1 of the 2 Aussie wingsuit basejumpers)... When Jimmy passed away, the old man showed me a vid of Jimmy and co jumping off stuff... one was a wingsuit flight off a antenna somewhere... I then you tubed wingsuit base jumping and found some clips that I just cant help watching over and over again... So on came the obsession with wing suit BASE... But yeah talk to ya's in a few year i guess... hopefully...

Re: [Wingit] What to get?
one of the hardest things to grasp is understanding what you do NOT know. BASE can be viewed as risk management. how do you manage things you do not comprehend?

Skydiving let's people discover things they did not know in a relatively safe environment. it allows people to figure out how they react when things go bad. it let's them see failure modes. it permits people to gain a level of comfort with the equipment. all this with plenty of altitude to spare.

people who want to jump directly into BASE tend to get little support here. when users see a potential train wreck, most choose to steer clear. few people want to give you advice that may get misapplied, especially if there is an elevated risk if injury.

BASE without much skydiving is viewed as unreasonable. thus threads like this inspire unreasonable responses.

Nothing!

Re: [gauleyguide] What to get?
You took out the important part! I suggested the most incompatible container with wingsuiting I could think of, and used the Raven to denote the possible age of said velcro container implying it would be worse, and then suggested the largest wingsuit manufactered for a jumper with almost no skydives. I even added a little twist suggesting he go handheld on a wingsuit jump. Come ne people, that post was hilarious!!!

ps nothing wrong with either a velcro rig (probably 100 jumps on one) or a Raven (just a handful) besides the one I flew flared like shit

Without wishing to put you off asking questions I think you will find that all these questions have been asked before and the information is out there if you put some effort in and looked for it. Do not expect to be spoon fed all the info you need to to get in to BASE, it takes time and dedication. If you keep asking basic questions people will fob you off .

You will need two rigs. One for Aus and one low profile job. I have a perigee and raven 4 you can have for a grand.

Re: [udder] What to get?
Ive decided to go down the path of getting a second hand complete skydiving rig and jump that (skydiving) till it either needs upgrading or till I get to the 200 jumps. Then ill try and borrow a beginners wingsuit, so then I can buy a ghost 2 and get used to flying that. By then I will hopefully have the sufficient knowledge, understanding and experience needed to buy a wingsuit BASE rig and a Velcro BASE rig.

I was being a bit gun ho earlier. Wingsuit BASE is just the ultimate freedom imo! I want to be able to do it 1000's of times rather than just once! So through all of your advice and help ill do it the right way.
Thanks heaps again!
