kites dont need to be packed. canopies do. i would worry about the glues residue and becoming rigid once packed. you should hole punch either side of the tear, then zip tie the damage closed, similar to wound stitches.
or caugh up the cheese and send it to a rigger or the manufacturer. jake

The system on the original post looks way too complicated to me, I would just rather use normal ripstop tape. Super easy to use, cheap and works. I have patches on my canopy that have been there for 400 jumps and they have not even started to peel off.
