Tail pocket facing up or down in container for ws
I always pack mine at the bottom of the container facing up, but was curious as to what others were doing ? Recently saw some extraction footage of a rig packed with tp facing down and the extraction looked super clean.

The method of 'S' folding the canopy into the tray has very little effect on inflation. The canopy will be pulled straight up and it won't matter which way the tailpocket was facing when you put it in.

How you do the folds is really down to what makes it easiest for you to get the canopy into the container (and what shape your container is, as well as which closing loops you are using).

Tom, thanks for the reply.
But during a ws extraction because of the forward speed and direction of travel the canopy comes out more horizontally than vertically. So say for a typical slider down pack job with the tail pocket at the bottom of the container facing up , wouldn't the tail pocket have to do a big flip over at the end as it's being extracted out of the container ? By comparsion, if the tail pocket was packed at the bottom of the container facing down it wouldn't have to do that flip over because it's already facing in the right direction. I'm sure as to either is inconsequential, however I'm always curious when I hear about different techniques.

Try packing your rig both ways, and then pull the canopy out by hand on the floor several times, thinking about the extraction process.

If you're even more OCD like me, you can find a balcony and drop the rig off it in various orientations with different folding methods. You could even set up a camera to film it so you can watch it in ultra slow mo with your equally gear-geeky friend.

If it puts your mind at ease, pack it that way. Smile

I have jumped with the TP at the top of the container. With the TL container you need to place the TP at the top and invert it.

I've also done it SD.

It seems to pack better using the TL than without. But as tom has stated it's all how it fits in the container.

I doubt that the position of the TP makes a difference in the cleanliness of extraction. That's the pack job. Pack it clean.... comes out clean, pack it like a garbage bag, it's gonna come out ..... clean
