I thought the arrest was for unlawful air delivery by parachute or something. There wouldn't be any air delivery by parachute if you didn't touch the ground!

how would get back on the ground then? they whole use of the aerial delivery statute is ridiculous. it was meant to prevent backcountry drops of equipment for poaching on NPS land, from what i've been told.

or they could also use the charge "creating and maintaining a hazardous condition."

I have spent a LONG time talking with the NPS for the last 8 years about rope jumping and permits for rope jumping, etc. The way to do it is just do it until they notice you.

What is the official NPS view on rope jumping?

And how about bag jumping?

I did write a fairly long and detailed proposal about "leave no trace", etc. and to their defense they DID read the entire thing. (several of them, as I had several sites and complete and sponsored designs I wanted to use for large rope free-fall systems. (nearly twice as large as the Norway world record jump).

Further, I want to commend these system engineers for the Norway system. As well as my Lithuanian friends for their amazing systems in Ukraine and elsewhere. I wish I could have been there. The record stood for twelve years, and what these guys have built is easily repeatable and 10x safer than Dan's sketchy as hell systems in the 90s. I hope to jump with you guys someday.

Did they mention at all how they justify climbing up using rope and rappelling down using rope but not jumping off using rope?

They may not like rope jumping, but I don't think they can do anything about it unless it's against their Management Policy.

I'm fairly certain it would fall under the "no fun allowed" policy.
