Wingload on Ataricanopy?
Hello!
Im trying to find my first gear and im wondering about the size of Atair canopys.
If i understand it correct a 265 Troll is about the same size as a (for example) Flik 280?

I think i have finally decided that im looking for a 280ish canopy, does that mean if its a Ataircanopy it should be 265?

That should be the general rule of thumb yes but what's your exit weight? I've been mostly jumping throughout my career 265 Trolls and a trango and my exit is around 80-85kg depending on the season and amount of gear I have with me. I also have jumped 245 and 225 Trolls and they feel pretty good as well but for crappier landing areas I would deffo take my 265. Hope this helps.

Re: [Hellis] Wingload on Ataricanopy?
I spoke to Stane about this when I bought my last canopy from him. He recommends a 0.7 W/L at Atairs sizing. I guess it depends what type of jumping you'll be doing most too.

Why not contact him directly...

Re: [maretus] Wingload on Ataricanopy?
My weight naked is about 80-83 (176-182 lbs).
Does 20 lbs of gear sound correct? That would give me 0.72 on a 280.

pjc: i have seen that too in the trollmanual, the chart tells me a Troll 265 average body weight 180 lbs or 80 kg.
I have not decided i want a Troll, but i see no reason why not to buy one (steping in to the minefield Wink).

Type of jumping, hmm.. Where i live it mostly depends on how high you can jump Wink
A solid jump from the sidewalk to the road might give you a half second Tongue
There is not many objects (as far as i know) around, atleast not for beginners.
My plan is to take it slow, but i must admit slider down is what i (think i) want.

You're a similar weight to me. I have a Troll 285 and OSP 285. I have also jumped a Troll 265. I'd be happy with the 265 for most stuff, but I'm happier on the 285's into tight concrete LA's. I wouldn't see any reason to get a smaller canopy apart from it saving a lb or 2 of baggage on long climbs.

Hmm... Maybe i should try and find a contaier that can hold a 280 (PIA size) and one size larger in case of tight landingspots?

use the listed atair canopy sizes to determine WL, dont convert.

Re: [JBag] Wingload on Ataricanopy?
But that will give me a 'higher wingload'?
Not that it really matters, its just a number.

Looking at the recomended canopysize for me, Atair says 265 in their manual, most other manufactors says somewhere between 265 and 280 or 280.
That tells me its wiser to go with a 280.

wingloading is based on canopy size.

Atair measures their canopies differently than others. it ends up most people choose a Atair canopy that is smaller than the competition when making an equal comparison.

obviously, this will distort the apparent wingloading.

edit to add:
I'll also recommend contacting Atair directly. BASE manufacturers tend to be rather helpful and accessible. No one knows their product better!

I'm looking at getting an OSP and my naked body weight is 178lbs. I emailed stane and he said his weight is the same as mine and he jumps a 285 OSP and suggest I do too. As mentioned before if you are unsure just ask stane.
