6-Wire A
My apologies in advance if this has been discussed before, I was unable to find it with a search.

I'm away from home for the weekend and was scouting an A local to where I'm visiting (no DZ, no local jumpers to my knowledge). Found the object very enticing, extremely easy access, no security, 4'x8' platform at ~450', open pasture field in every direction, etc... but one thing struck me as a little concerning. The stick has 6 wires on every corner. To be a little more clear, there are only wires going in 3 directions, but there are 6 in each direction. This seems like a lot to me, as the only other A's I've jumped are 3 wires from 450' and 1 wire from 280'. Two of the attachment points would be above canopy opening altitude, which would leave four to deal with in case of an off heading. Has anyone jumped such an A? What are your opinions? Thanks guys and gals.

Re: [seanlarose] 6-Wire A
Basically if it's dissected into 120 sectors but where there would normally be one wire there are two running parallel from the tower to the ground. Then yes I have jumped one. It's no dramas really, you still have the normal 120 deg sector to use. As usuall stay away from the wires.

Such antennas are jumped regularly.
As usual with guywired antennas, you may want to be mindful of the weather and have a good down wind down the sector.

I've seen this a lot in my area for towers around 400' - 500'. Just be mindfull of where they are in case of an off heading.

I am just guessing, but I figured they do that in locations where high winds occur. Down here theres the chance of hurricanes and tornadoes. Again, thats just a guess.

See attached. Its a rough sketch of the setup I typ see at those heights. Angles and spacings are not accurate as I suck at paint.

The third guy wire (green) shows the typ setup to where a triangular structure pertrudes out from the main structure and provides a diferent angle of support. The top view shows the lower half setup from the third guy down. I always have to take this into consideration and give a good push off and have a planned delay.

Now this setup does not apply to all towers around here due to a wide variety of heights.

Sorry I have no scouting/jump pictures of any objects in my area. This is the best I can answer your question.

Interesting, the A in question has the exact same setup on the 3rd wire up.

Thanks for all the input folks, your opinions matched what I'd thought initially, but it's always nice to get confirmation. Thanks again.
