Can someone explain why urban gymnastics is called Parkour? I think its some amazing stuff to watch, but how did the name evolve? I don't remember it being called that at Go Fast a couple years ago when they had some demonstrations.
BTW, what you asking is how do I become a base jumper. There is no correlation of skill between rhythmic gymnastics and flying a parachute, which is what you would be doing. I have no doubt that if you are a good parkourer (or whatever you would call yourself) that you would excel at aerials, but that won't help you when you break your back smashing into the building you just jumped off off because you lack even basic parachuting skills.
Good luck!
Parkour comes from "parcours du combattant" which was a french obstacle course.
Someone who does it is a traceur. Coming from the verb tracer meaning to trace.
That is a good point though. His whole idea is totally unrelated to parkour. Just do what I did and give up parkour, get out of shape, and have more fun jumping off stuff you couldn't before.
