Does anyone have some information or maybe even first hand experience of the possible punishments/consequences of getting caught BASE Jumping in Thailand and Indonesia? I am planning a trip there with a few fellow jumpers next year and checked out a few locations on scene already ... but I would like to have fairly a conception of what to expect. Like 3 days in prison would be fine ... anyway in case I am facing 3 weeks + I would reconsider the pleasure/risk ratio of a few jumps! :D

A much older and wiser jumper once told me never to jump in a foreign country until you know what the inside of a jail cell looks like and how long you're gonna be there. Wise advice.

An even wiser person told me that anything goes as long as you have a wad of cash to throw at the po.

And the wisest of all said that if you're fast enough you'll never get caught.

to start with, guess you made the wise choice NOT to include Singapore in your BASE trip. From what I heard and read...its the last place you want to mess up with the local laws...

Indonesia, Thailand...cash should do I reckon. :-P. Tonsai beach cliff is legal/'they don't care' site I think. no?

On another note...related to getting caught..

say you make a successful jump and come out clean and then the next morning you post the video on youtube. Would the authorities then come and say.. I saw your video ..you did that jump...its illegal on that building ....please get into the truck...I will drop you in a nearby jail? how risky is it to post videos even if you make sure that there are no traces of your identity in the video?

I am actually not the type of person to post anything on Youtube! (I don't need to show off to the rest of the world) ... and even if then I would probably do it when I am back home first! haha ^^

thats actually a wise idea to upload it when home ...haha


that doesn't convince me that the uniformed guys will knock on my door and confiscate my camera and arrest me for jumping off a building even when I did my jump without damaging any property or somebody's health....

I think it will take some serious things(high profile object, break in, damages etc ) to actually make them look for evidence ..

Last I heard you don't even have a rig (skydiving or base). Better get one before you jump any buildings.
