Buying Kit
There is so much information rearding the pros and cons of buying velcro over pinned rigs.
As ive never jumped before and most of the articles are now old (so technology has moved on) what is the pick from "old timers" in this regard. Could you write a little piece on why you think one over the other.

Canopy's. Im just going to get a canopy (the most bullet proof from the manufacturer I buy my container from). Vented or non vented?

Ill be jumping it in australia (either brisbane or sydney)!

Cheers for the info/reccomendations.

Hi,

judging your current level of basic knowledge of BASE by your post, I suggest you first talk to the people you will be jumping with, i.e. your local jumpers.

No offense, you can also read peoples opinions on the internet but you're much better off talking to an actual jumper live about most anything concerning this sport.

Re: [sasslife] Buying Kit
Have you just moved there or have you yet to start skydiving?

Velcro is fine if well maintained, but pins are the way to go.

But you got the canopy part backwards. That's the thing that going to get you safely to the ground. Choose your canopy very carefully and if you wish then get the two pin rig from the same manufacturer not the other way around.

Your canopy choice is especially important if you are going to jumping in Aus., talk to the locals.

Agreed
Canopies are our vehicles.

Containers are our garages.

M8, I am also just starting out. I really think that THE GREAT BOOK OF BASE will answer all your initial questions. I have read it twice now and still picking up more info. The Velcro containers are recommended for non terminal objects and there is some gr8 info on Apex website. They say the favourite is a pin closed container as it is more versatile. But have a read you will love it.
